Hi, can anybody recommend any particular airlines that offer good value flights to the states? I have been looking on air lingus and they are about €450-€500 booked about 2 weeks before leaving which actually isn't that bad. I booked them months in advance last year from United and still paid about €500.
Anyone care to recommend any others? I will have to book at short notice unfortunately as I am awaiting exam results before I know I can head over.

www.travelsupermarket.com is a great search engine. Plus, if you search flights from London and use ryanair/aer lingus to get you there it'll work out even cheaper

Thanks for the link geeby! I never considered flying from London to cut costs. Could work out €100 cheaper by the looks of things. :)

First let me tell you about the website that will change your travel life.

www.skyscanner.net now I always sing these guys praises but just because I find not many people have heard of them and its amazing. With this you can search for a flight from Ireland (not just Dublin) or the whole of England (or any country for that matter) to the USA not even a particular city! And you can search any date, or the cheapest over a whole month or even the year!

I could help you if you have travel dates or ranges and destinations within the US. Firstly though can I'd advise you to try and search one way flights in an out of the US, usually a cheaper option might be to fly in to New York and out of Boston etc.

Finally when you've found the cheapest flight using the above make sure you check a student website like www.go4less.ie for the same flight sometimes it can be cheaper.

No offense to the other guy who posted but going to England first is never that good an option, the flight to an airport can be expensive when they know there is a cheap flight leaving that airport to America. Just a heads up, also you should never check any of those flight supermarket places but if you do don't book it with them go to the airlines site and it will be cheaper and better customer service in case.

Well firstly, i'd say never reduce your options. I tried travelsupermarket vs skyscanner for new york a month from now and it was £108 cheaper on TSKT. Maybe i just chose a bad week, eh? If you checked out the site you'd see it quotes you and has a 'go to site' link.
All your posts mention skyscanner.com. The prices are poor. I know times are hard in the travel industry but pretending to be a very happy customer??? Knowing this i'd be far too worried to be left stranded when theny go down S***creek even if they were €150 cheaper than they are

Anyways, just warning you OP...this looks like advertising post

Just to make it clear I am not advertising for skyscanner, I do really like the site but it is only useful for Europe and to America, for internal flights in US or flights to South America, Asia atc they are pants.

Also I was only trying to advise that when going to England just factor in costs such as getting there, maybe accommodation or transport costs between airports, never of course reduce your options its just that I find overall its a bit easier and cheaper just to fly from Dublin to the US. But having said that I have done it a couple of times because it can be cheaper.

Finally I think you should never book from any of these sites purely because you get better customer service from the airline, that includes travelsupermarket and skyscanner, I don't know what the last bit was about, if skyscanner hit the wall it wouldn't make a difference to your flight because your not booking it through them.

One more thing, I'm not hugely familiar with travelsupermarket, had a quick look thought they were something like cheapflights that charge extra. I'm looking at it at the mo and they seem pretty good though, jumped the gun on that one, still though find the cheapest and book it through the airlines website unless its a amazing deal (very rarely is).
