Have'nt seen Terminator 2 for years but it turns out it's on tomorrow on RTE 2 at the same time as the Late Late Show which many will be watching cause it's the planks last night. I was going to watch it myself but think I will be flicking back and forward now which is a nusiance. Why would RTE want to split it's viewing figures like that? Seems strange. They should have showed T2 on Saturday and the crap that is T3 tomorrow. Another RTE own goal?

For me personally, the Plank's last night effectively happened years ago.

Maybe I am time travelling, á la the T2 coming back for John Connors?

Yeah. What's the point in having a Terminator weekend and not showing the best one.

    planks being terminated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,367 ✭✭✭Agamemnon

Take some good drugs and flick back and forth between the two. You'll end up seeing a naked Plank intoning "I need your clothes, boots and your motorcycle" before breaking Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh out of a mental asylum and knocking Ryan Turbidy into a vat of molten steel. Plank will then tell us he knows now why we cry, but it is something he can never do. Siún Nic Gearailt will lower him into the vat because Plank can't self-terminate.

Tough choice that.... a monosyllabic, rubber-skinned apparent half-man, half-robot with a tunnel-visioned wish to oppress humans who interfere with their vision of ruling the nation, or Terminator 2?

An amalgamation of the two would be sweet. Arnie chasing pat with with a shotgun would definitely have me watching.

If t2 is on at the same time as the late late, does that mean that Rté aren't showing Criminal Minds this Friday?

If so, that sucks, as the new episodes on Rté end in just nice time for me to head to the pub for a Friday one-or-two.

And What's the point of a "terminator weekend" that doesn't feature "The Terminator"? Its just Rank stupidity showcasing a movie that spawned three sequels (One very good, one utter sh*te and one TBC) without actually showing that movie...

What we do have showing is the classic sequel (which, although very very good, is already in the vast majority of Irish homes on VHS, DVD or Blu-ray,) the utterly rubbish threequel (which isn't in the vast majority of Irish homes on VHS, DVD or Blu-ray, with good reason) , and a half hour advertisment for the upcoming cinema release.

I'm assuming that Sony pictures International paid handsomely for what is a serious amount of airtime ad space for their new flick during weekend primetime.

    OP has some serious dilemmas.

That late late clip is the best moment of the show in the last decade.

Yup RTE always mess around with Criminal minds in the middle of the series, Living usually catches up

If Pat is the Terminator, does this mean that Tubirdy is the T-1000 (a younger, and even more advanced robot)?

Cool the way they have tv shows you can watch one show on RTE1 and record the other on RTE2. Dave Fanning is probably in both of them.

I'd hate if Gaybo was tuned in last night for PK's final show. He would be spinning in his grave if he was alive today.

Simple answer for that, Terminator Salvation is made by Columbia Tristar who own the Terminator franchise but not T1 as that was made by MGM, Carloco made T2 who were bought by Sony who made T3, so as they own Columbia and are sponsoring the Terminator weekend to tie in with T4 they can only show the movies they own the rights to

Sony purchased the MGM/UA catalogue some years ago, a deal which included all 8000 of MGM's movies, such as the Pink Panthers, The James bonds and the Terminator, which was made by Orion pictures & was one of many of the finished movies MGM acquired upon Orion's bankruptcy.

One of the first significant packages including former MGM owned products released by Sony under the terms of the new deal (along with the Repackaged James Bond editions to support the (then) upcoming Columbia Tristar Release of Casino Royale) was a box set of the now fully Sony-owned Terminator Trilogy (1, 2 & 3).

The original "Terminator" being absent from the Rté "Terminator weekend" line up is probably more to do with short sighted scheduling and incomplete film package purchasing by Rté than any question of rights ownership.
