# sign appears every time I press window button

    When I press the windows button on the keyboard beside the ctrl key on the left hand side of the keyboard it enters a # sign on whatever I am working on. It's really frustrating as I swap from application to application regualarly and use windows M to close all screens, I work with a lot of spreadsheets and it is constantly deleting numbers and entering # sign. Can anyone help?
