Is UPC Digital any better now?

Hi I had NTL about a year or so ago, it was ok, I had the digital service, however the guide never worked, always get the 'gathering data', but it never did reach that climax.

My flatmate moved out and so he cancelled SKY+, and as I have by broadband with UPC I though I might just have the one bill, and reduce my 20MG to a much lower connection and get a cheap digital package also, thus saving the small few bob a month.

If I do this is the channel selection any better than it was, and do those digital boxes actually work now, i.e the guide? Any channels I will loose that are interesting, I know SKY give you alot of rubbish, but is there anything like SKY 1 or such missing?

    Thanks

Well the channel line up hasn't changed hugely over the last year, certainly no new channels to get excited about anyway. UPC have a new box now and the guide is much better, kinda like sky.

I think one or two fewer stations, the new EPG is much better on the UPC branded boxes than the one NTL ones.

    But still no Series-Link....

Is that the Digital + box, or standard one?

There is the same channel line up on the UPC branded boxes as on the NTL branded ones, as long as your living in the same franchise area though.

I'm undecided as to whether the EPG is actually better though. The fact that it actually works as described (the NTL EPG is/was prone to double listings and frequently giving "no information" for any listings except the current day) is a plus and it does have a seven day EPG. Its also got a grid view and a more tasteful colour scheme (tasteful colours never having been NTL's strong point since the 1999 rebrand from NTL/CableTel to ntl: ). But I miss Browse - UPC just gives you Now and Next.
