A 78 to finish his 1st round as a professional. 2 birdie's, a double bogie and a few bogies and the rest par's. Won't be making the cut after that round.

Course knowledge must have been the reason for the win in Baltray.

1 round into his career and you come out with a stupid comment like that....

It's his 1st tournament as a pro and in new surroundings it will take him time.. Sure look at Justin Rose after he turned pro is a totally new world for him and he will have to adjust to it..

Simon Dyson had a top 20 finish at this event (same course) last year yet he had a 79 today, one worse than Shane... did conno hack into your account or something?

It's a tough "game" and he's now in with the best. He'll have a few bad rounds like everyone but give him time - some parts of his game will need to be improved if he is to consistently do well.

Think he's already proved he's capable of shooting low scores in a tour event.

To have a successful career, I'd say it's more important that he hits some serious form 4 or 5 times per year and has a couple of top tens and maybe even a win, than make 20 cuts a year and only finish top 50-70 all the time.

His stats suggest that tee to green he wasnt too far away. He was slightly below the field average in Fairways hit and GIR.

32 putts and only 3/8 scrambles tells its own story. I would expect a better second round today.

As he says himself, this 6 months is to get settled into the tour life and be ready for the 2010 season.

Apparently he'd only played 12 holes since the Irish Open. 5 one day and then 7 with his missus last weekend. Give him a few weeks and he'll be fine...

A bit better today, to late to make up for yesterdays round. A lot of pressure on him this weekend so i'm sure he'll just be glad to have this comp out of the way.

A round of 73 today to finish the tournament on plus seven. A very poor opening to his pro career but hopefully he can turn it around in the next tournament.

Let's face it, I don't think anyone, including himself had high expectations this week.

I have every confidence the chap will come good given time. He can start by not playing anymore golf with his Mrs. :p

But her father is co owner of the Esker Hills club, its kind of unavoidable seeing as his home course is her back garden lol. Plus she's off the same handicap on the same course as me so i can't say anything haha :)

I'm under no illusions what Shane has in front of him, I'm also well aware what happened to J.Rose. I just was illustrating what advantage course knowledge has in playing any event, either amateur or professional.

I also hope that he has a better start to the professional ranks than J.Rose.

    Stupid comment. NOT.

Explain ... Not too many other professionals would have been around the Baltry links before, yet this is the second year in a row that the European open is at the London club in Kent.

Just checked the scores and he finished ahead of Robert Rock and also another Irish Open winner Michael Campbell .

Lowry will do fine in the long haul.
It would have been impossible to do well in his first event, given all the goings on after Baltray.
He only managed 30 holes of golf in the previous week and 12 of those were in Esker Hills.

The irish open was held in Baltray before in 2004 so plenty of the field would have played it previously. Not to mention the other Irish tour guys who would be very familiar with the links... Gary Murphy lives up there... course knowledge is a help of course but it's not "the reason he won". If that were the case the local guy would win every week.

I'd give him until end of 2009 before making a comment.

If he is making cuts by end of 09 then he is doing well.

by end of 2010 I would like to see the odd top 10.

People might say I am not asking much but it is a tough world on the tour.

Big step up from his level to pro.

What he did in Baltray was amazing lets hope it wasn't the weekend of his life.

    We all have great weekends
