Male 32, driving for 13 years - is XS Direct the cheapest?

    Hi,

I have a full EU driving licence since 1996, resident in Ireland since 2000, but never got my own car. I rented different cars quite a few times (wouldn't be surprised if it totalled 1 full year between them), not a single accident etc. Of course no NCB, not having insured a car before.

I got quotes from chill.ie, and the cheapest for a Mazda 3 1.4 (a bit underpowered for my taste) is 730 with XS Direct, BUT the excess is 4000 euro. Next one is KennCo - Highway Choice with €1,047.63 and 300 excess.

If I put the girlfriend as main driver, XS direct goes to 680 with 2000 excess - Is there much difference between main driver NCB and named driver NCB, in terms of discounts from insurance companies?

Until I get my first year NCB, do I have any other less expensive choices? Should I check some local insurance brokers, or what would your suggestions be?

    Cheers

Once you build up your first year NCB it should fall rapidly

    cool thanks.

Got a quote from XS Direct for a 2001 BMW 528i - 838 with the same 4k excess - may as well go for a proper car :)

You may as well :D ....Not liking the 4k excess however  ..

Give arron anyway they gave me a cheaper fully comp quote then my TPFT renewal.

Try FBD as well, AXA seem to be a rip for me.

    hi Rocky ,
I noticed your post and I am in a similar position . I am now in Australia after living in UK most of my life but my
wife and I plan to live in Ireland if I can get car insurance - I have only had car insurance here for 7 months and hired a car
in UK when I wanted one . So the ripoff irish insurance companies regard me at age 74 as a new and inexperienced driver and
can only get astronomical estimates . But I then noticed XS direct and estimate was about 800 euros which is high but bearable ( pay 200 euros a year in OZ ) . Do you know if they will insure a UK citizen who will have just arrived in Ireland ?
hope you see this and can answer .
    Barry

I've always found 123.ie the best for quotes but that my just be my own Age/NCD status, but 2000 &4000 excess sound absolutely ridiculous, normal policies are around 250excess

Lets hope Rocky's insurance has reduced in the 6 years since this thread was started. :pac:
