I was just listening to a podcast of morning Ireland. There was an interview with member of the green party Elizabeth Davidson.

I took issue with a lot of what she said but I want to keep it motor related.

I wrote down what they were saying. She stuttered a bit and got her words mixed up because she was caught off guard for all of the questions. Very unprofessional for a politician.. but then again she is a Green party politician. :p
Cathal: there are hard times ahead, cuts have to be made. We are runnig now 20billion ahead of what we should be spending so really cuts to public spending have to be made. As you look to public spending, what would you see as one obvious area where we can save alot.

Davidson:I think that there is a re-adjustment to be made I would like to see the cuts made in the road infrastructure system and changes made to public transport. I mean that would an easy one for a green I mean it's hard to say otherwise.

Cathal: Even more than than the cuts to the road budget that have already been made nad road building delayed.

Davidson: Well I think we need to get a public transport infrastructure which connects together I mean to get Dublin particularly and dublin south into the public transport and out of their cars and into a reliable economical sytem that people can trust.
It's like they are brainwashed into hating the Dublin motorist. I've never really noticed it that much but when I heard this I just thought these Greens are insane.
Cathal: So is there anything better about Fianna Fail than the others?
Davidson: They are in government at the moment.
She just wants to be power to make the modern motorist extinct no matter what the cost or even who they have to get into power with.

She pretty much wants to get rid of all roads so there will be less cost to the Irish government so we can concentrate more in stabilizing the economy... :(

Yes but if we switched to horse and cart instead of cars - think how much more green it would be and it would attracht more tourists. Where now did I put my shillelagh?

Never mind that all the suddenly scrapped cars have to go 'somewhere'. Shouldn't they be encouraging people to hold onto safe serviceable cars for longer, rather than booting them off the road after 5 years with emissions tests in the NCT and the such?

The tailpipe emissions from a car used for 5 years.... is nothing compared to what's done to make a brand new one. And that's if you're one of those Global Warming Thicko's.

Of course, hanging onto your old car is a minimal resource user.... a brand new model, even if it's made from mostly recycled parts, is one hell of a whallop to the environment. And it's government enforcing of this throwaway it's old culture that'll kill the bloody planet.... not cow farts and exhaust gasses.
