Training Logs sub forum?

    Hi,

After last weeks knife defence stuff the instructors mixed it up again this week with some MMA style grappling with a lot of work on choke holds, ground defence and the like.

And that got me thinking about teh sort of training that other clubs do, the drills they use, warm ups and so on. Thinking back to the session as well it was clear that the people who just did teh classes really struggled against the people who also did cardio or strength work, which left me wondering about the kind of cross / supplemental training that everyone else does.

So I was wondering about having a "Training Logs" sub section here?

Basically like this but focussed on MA. When we brought it into A/R/T it took a while for logs to appear but there are over 100 now with people of all abilities and covering a variety of distances. We all read and comment on each others logs and get a wealth of good info from them. Looking at the viewing figures I know that there are also a huge number of lurkers in there and a fair few have begun contributing simply so they could start a log of thier own.

With teh range of MA styles done by people on here there would be a huge benefit for all of us - but in particular the novices like myself - to read about what other people are doing and keeping a log is a good way of checking your own training and seeing what works.

So what do you all think?

I'll stick this for awhile and see what kind of reaction/suggests etc it gets.

Personally I don't view online logs because put simply I don't believe a lot of what people have to say in regards to their training or abilities and even worse I hate to see the advice given out in particular.

I'm thinking of the advice given out to genuine questions in the fitness forum, where I'm sure if I lost some fingers from both hands I'd still have enough to count the people who's advice I'd credit there - and I've no doubt the same would happen here.

But hey, I'm just an old dog stuck in his ways and these are just my own personal opinion.

    Other's may feel different.

OK there seem's to be a glitch in the system preventing me from sticking the thread, I'll do it later when things are sorted.

Really? That's interesting and probably down to some of teh personalities that can be drawn to MA I suppose. Certainly the experience in A/R/T was 100% positive - not a huge amount of point in lying online about having gone for a run because you don't impress anyone. And we have races where any bluffers would be caught out. Would be a shame if a few walter mitty types ruined it though.

I know what you mean about the Fitness forum - 99% of teh time the attitude seems to be "the answer is weights, now what was teh question" :P Goes in cycles though and there can be some good info on there.

Don't get me wrong, I think its a great idea in theory but in practice I just think of the Fitness Forum model & shudder.

I'd love to see the opinions here on it all the same, after all anything positive has to be a good thing for this forum.

    Lets discuss it lads.

Not a bad idea, I just don't see enough regulars on here using it.

There are some already in the fitness forum, not many though. I dont think there would be enough uptake to justify it.

Couple of lads already keep training logs as blogs . Is this subforum designed to be interactive?
