Crappy Music Player/Organiser for PS3

I just find the music player for the PS3 to be very disappointing. I think with a fairly basic update it could be considerably better.

Why do the albums or artists have to load while I scroll through them? Making playlists are impossible. Can Sony not throw out some form of proper player for it? A simple itunes / wmp / songbird clone would be fine, Anything.

The PS3 has some much potential to become a complete entertainment system but I just think its lack of a user-friendly music player is holding it back. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is annoyed by this.

Why did sony update the photo display interface. I don't know about anyone else but I certainly haven't used that. Why didn't sony put that effort into a haven't music player first? I have to resort to use my mp3 player or old laptop.

Anyway rant over. But sony need to get their finger out. Does anyone know if any changes are coming to the music player in further firmware updates?

don't worry they are working on a home area where it takes 25 minutes to load into it, but once in you can walk around and indiviually collect your favourite songs that are on your PS3 from home clones of the artists themselves, and put them into a backpack. Once you have all the songs you want to listen to in your backpack (takes about 1 hour to collect them together, depending on how many artists you are collecting from) you walk 15 minutes to the Audio listening booth.

Note: There is only 5 Audio listening booths so you will have to queue before getting your turn to listen to your songs.

Personally I am hoping when they introduce VidZone, they also include an overhaul to the music player at the same time.

The whole cross media bar is a load of arse and MS were stupid to copy it in the new xbox experience.

I like it for everything but the music organising. Simple yet effective until you have hundreds of gigs. For the games and stuff its perfect

Yeah it's grand until you have to sort something out and everything is lumped into the system bar in a really badly organised manner.

I find the cross media bar infinitely better than anything I use on Xbox, but I don't use it for music really. From what I have seen, it could be neater, but I hope they never change the rest of the interface.

The only thing I find badly organised is my music. All my videos are organised on an external the way I want, photos are organised by album the way I want and games are in genre specific folders the way I like.
Besides music what do you have trouble with?

I don't like that I can't put things in folders.

For example I have a folder on My memory stick that says: Lost Season 2 - within it there are 24 Lost episodes but if I transfer the folder I just get 24 Lost episodes and a scrolling nightmare.

I don't like that the PS3 lets ANY song be unknown. Should be a simple task for it to scan the net or use whatever it uses to sort it.

Its not a PS3 issue per se but If you trasfer Wavs onto the PS3 it loses the album name (although not the track name) and you are left with an unknown album.

If you select the video and press triangle and then go into 'Information', you can enter a folder name there. That's how all my videos are arranged - 'Anime', 'TV Shows', 'Game Trailers' etc.

Ah I ee what you mean. I would still have to put in 100 or so tags though!

Yeah I know, it's a bit of a pain if you don't have a keyboard. I don't think you can copy videos to a specific folder either when you're transferring them over. If only you could rename them by group or select certain files and move them.

The PSP only used to be able to 'see' music files two folders deep (i.e. X:/Music/Artist/song.mp3). People were complaining about this for years until it was finally changed in firmware 5.50... which was released a few weeks ago. So just to give you a bit of a heads up, Sony will probably get around to fixing this problem with music organisation, but we could be waiting a year or two... :pac:

The keypad thing works fine. I wouldn't be arsed changing 100 plus tags with a full size keyboard either tbh!

You type the first few letters then its predicts the world. Then its x button as it predicts the rest of label name. Now this is okay with a tv show episode, but big music collection would be a nightmare

The PS3 recognises tags and album art from WMP or Media Monkey anyway so if you have your music library on your PC all it takes is copying it over. I'm in the process of recompiling my music library on my PC and **** does it take ages to get everything perfect. Which is why I haven't finished it yet...

Once I do though I'll just copy everything onto the PS3 and it'll all organise properly by artist, genre, year of release etc.

I know dude, those were dark times. Hopefully PS3 gets FLAC support like the PSP has at some stage.

FLAC support would be great, as well as making the music player better.
