So, just started getting into the technicalities of what I'm doing on the bike, in an effort to improve. I have a couple of really clueless newbie questions.

'Spinning' is being in a low/easy gear and moving your legs very quickly?
'Mashing' is being in a high/hard gear and moving your legs slower?

Really silly question now 'Low/easy gear' means the chain is on a small cog at the back?!

'Hill repeats' is basically going up and down the same hill over and over again?

'Cleats' are the clicky bits in the sole of your shoes? and pedals are always pedals, no mater how you click or strap into them?

Ok, now that ye are all laughing hysterically at the idiot asking obvious questions, I'll leave ye and go think of some more!

Low/easy usually means large ring at the back, small ring at the front

Everything else you have said is correct.

i feel your pain, i only got into cycling like 6 months ago and its a pretty steep learning curve.

    spinning and mashing, correct.
an easy gear is the biggest at the back, then the small is the hard gear.
have never heard of hill repeats myselfm will be interested to see the answer.
yep cleats are the bits that stick out the bottom, but there are different types just to confuse you more,
pedals are always pedals, but you have your common flat pedals that is just a platform for your foot with no retention system, then you have clipless pedals (this confused me for a while) these are the ones you click into and you will have cleats on your shoes for these, then you can have pedals with toe clips which is a flat pedal with a cage type thing you put the top of your foot in.

    hope i answered your questions
