I have just bought a car, and it seems to have half a Nokia bluetooth carkit installed. In that there is a speaker under the dashboard and the mic is wired to the rearview mirror. There is nothing else however. Is there any way of reactivating it?

    Thanks

Just wondering, have you tried searching for other bluetooth devices from your phone while sitting in your car with the power on?

Nothing doing on that front. I have searched but to no avail. I suspect the unti has been taken out, but as it seems to be all wired I am trying to figure out if i can get it going again buy buying a new head unit ect

Some of them are paired tru the radio. what car is it? If there is a mode button on the steering wheel press it for 4 sec and then release it and see if it talks back to you. It mite say " say a command" then you say "pair phone" and it will talk you tru the rest.

Its a BMW 316. It does indeed have a button on the wheel, but i have held it and nothing happens. Should I have the phone in bluetooth mode when I am pressing the wheel button?

    Thanks

No. If its not talking back to you i reckon it dont have that set up on it. Is there any book in the glove box that would indicate what phone is fitted to it. What model and year is it ?

Nothing in the glove box in regards to the fone. It is a '02 BMW 316 SE. As I said, there is a mic on the roof and a speaker bolted under the glovebox. I am trying to figure out how/if I can use existing bits to get kit working again.

    Thanks again for the help

If you have a fully intact nokia car kit (C7-KW most likely) you will hear a beep about 20 seconds after you start the car, this is the car kit telling you that it has looked for a paired device and not found any. If you don't hear this noise then the kit is either disconnected or missing a part (the main box being the only part other than the Mic and speaker) this is probably easy to buy off Ebay as it's probably the most common type of car kit in Ireland.

Just be aware the wired non BT kit and the BT kit look identical, the non BT kit has a cable that connects directly to the phone vs the BT connection to any phone from the C7-KW, so the kit in your car may be the non BT, but the previous owner changed phone and just disconnected the old phone cable and left the rest in place as it pretty difficult to remove if you don't know what you are doing.

The main box will most likely be installed behind the glovebox if you want to remove it and have a look.

Victor M - I will take a look behine the glovebox for something. I have found a new C7 KW on Ebay, http://cgi.ebay.ie/Nokia-Advanced-Car-Kit-CK-7W-BLUETOOTH-HANDSFREE-NEW_W0QQitemZ110385346685QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mobile_Home_Phones_Bluetooth_Acc_ET?hash=item19b37ab87d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Would it be possible to add the bits that i am missing on to the bits i already have, given that most of the installation is already done (mic, speaker ect)

Beams99 - the kit is not a factory fit. Its a Nokia aftermarket kit.

    Thanks again

What has happened in your car is that previous owner has taken out the most valuable part of the car kit, the control box. I have a stack of speakers & mics in the shed, so if I were to remove a kit in a hurry I wouldn't bother taking these units. They are the some or similar to items that were used on older kits.
Some installers simply hook up the new Bluetooth control unit to the existing speaker & mic in the car to speed up the install time.

If I were in your position I would buy a Parrot CK3000 car kit along with a connects2 unit. There are two reasons why I would go with Parrot over Nokia kit:

    1. The Parrot kit works well with all handset Manufacturers. I have had echo & pairing problems with my CK-7W with iPhone, Motorola KRAZR, Sony Ericsson k800i, W850i, etc. I have a Parrot installed in the other car & there is no echo issues.
    2. The Parrot used in conjunction with the Connects2 unit allow you to use the BMW steering wheel buttons to control the kit for answer/hang up, vol up/down, redial, etc. Without the Conencts2 module you will have to use the Parrot control buttons, while not ugly or anything will be visible, it is a similar story for the Nokia.

    Car Kit:

(These are also available on EBay too, but if you are ordering the unit below then it might work out as cheap to get it together to save delivery costs)

    Adapter:

Note: research carefully before you buy, you want to be sure you get the right adapter for your car.

    Best of luck with it!

I did that last week on my wifes car and we discovered her Nokia kit was bluetooth aswell as hands free. All along (2 years ) we thought it was just hands free in the cradle through the speakers....:D

I swapped the c7kw module into an older kit that was installed in the last car I had. It was just a simple plug in. THe fittings from the speaker, button, aerial and electrical were the same so I would say there is a good chance that if you bought that c7kw on ebay, you would just need to find where the control module was previously installed and just plug it in.
You have the speaker & the button already so no routing of cables required if you dont want the phone cradle. I left out the cradle as was happy with bluetooth and I charge the phone each night anyway.
The electrical part of it is easy but Id say its already done in your car anyway.

Perhaps somebody could help me out on this one so!?
I've got a BMW with a Nokia kit installed - it's got the mic, speakers, cradle, and I'm sure the controller is in behind the glovebox somewhere. I'm also pretty sure it's presently not bluetooth capable - there's no bluetooth button thingy.
I'd say it's a CK-7W with just the cradle - do all CK-7W controllers support bluetooth and is it just a case of buying that part, or is there more to it than that?
I'd be looking to buy one off eBay, since they're pretty cheap on there. What do I need?

And I'm guessing nokia bluetooth will work with my iPhone, yeah!???

Have you searched for Bluetooth devices with the ignition on? If it's a CK 7W then it is Bluetooth enanbled and your phone should find CK 7W, you'd just need to fit a button.

It probably won't work properly with an I-Phone though. Nokia Bluetooth kits work well with Nokia phones, but for some reason don't work so well with other Bluetooth phones.

You'd be better off with a Parrot Kit.

It actually works perfectly with the iPhone, I had most difficulty with Sony Ericsson & Blackberry's (older BB granted)

OP, pull out the glovebox (easy screws on both sides, 3 along the inside top) check what you have/what's missing order mising part from Ebay, the other solutions like the parrot are great but probably not entirely nessecary for you as you have half the kit already intsalled and don't have to pay anyone to fit a new one.

Edit: just looked at the link on Ebay, that C7-KW is exactly what you need, literally plug the unit into the existing connectors, taking the glovebox out is the longest part of the job.

If the main box is all you are missing then this is all you need to order

    Hi Cian,
there was a non-bluetooth version of a Nokia car kit that looked identical to the CK-7W car kit. The visual difference between the bluetooth & non-bluetooth control units is twofold:
    1. The bluetooth one has a criss-cross design on the top of the box, the non-bluetooth one has a smooth finish.
    2. The non-bluetooth one supports the separate plug-in handset, or privacy handset (not very popular)

Important to note that the cable going between the control unit & the cradle is different on both units. Try to use an older cable with the newer box & your phone won't charge. The pin-outs are slightly different. Although this is only important if you have a phone that fits the cradle though, which most people don't anymore as the "pop-port" phones designed for it have been phased out.

As for CK-7W & iPhone, it is a terrible combination, I use it every day unfortunately, the person at the other end hears an echo, I have had problems with software lock ups on the phone under certain circumstances when connected to the car kit.
    Definitely go with the Parrot.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Looks like I'll stick with the auld' headset for a bit, and splash out for a parrot when I have the monies. :)

Meant to add that the cradles look identical on both kits.

I have heard that there is fierce feedback for the person you are talking to, if you use the Nokia kit and the iphone, which is exactly what I would be doing.

Is there any other bluetooth brain I can plug into the mic/speaker to make it work?

    Thanks

If it's any consolation I have been using the iPhone and Nokia BT kit for almost a year flawlessly together, no sound quality, lock-up or connectivity issues.

Rebel Ranter is your iPhone a 3G with the latest software or a jailbroken 2G? The reason I ask, I know a some of the earlier bugs have been ironed out with updates.

I'd risk it for the sake of the €20 part on Ebay I linked to earlier

I have a 2G jailbroken iphone! So i am thinking that there is a risk. But I dont mind the €20. The link on ebay only seems to have the unit, but not the Nokia button device which answers it ect. Where do I get this?

    Thanks again
