Oh noes a right wing blogging columist uses the Irish/Catholic kiddie abuse as a weapon to bring back corporal punishment in teh UK! Thats a tendentious, mendacious, mixed up article, and Ed West is a Catholic.

Over the years there has been a lot of this kind of stuff in the Daily Mail as well which seems to magically disappear from the Irish version!

The Telegraph have now produced this gem of an article!

    From that blog piece
He explained that Ireland has for centuries tolerated levels of domestic violence and alcoholism that are much higher than those in other Catholic cultures. There's no single, neat explanation for this - but the brutality of English colonial oppression certainly rubbed off on society. Rural Ireland until the 1970s was basically a Third World country; it still had a peasantry (thanks in part to the English)

See it all the Brits fault ;)
