    (3 Laps - 48km)
Abandoned! Yup, having started the race on (yet another) wet and windy Wednesday, the flipping thing gets abandoned due to road works with (traffic lights) on the route. As it happens, there had already been a change of venue (due to road works) and it looks like the curse of ‘wildcat’ road works struck again. I mean, nearly all the roads we use are in such as state they could do with it but what’s the chances of two routes being fixed up at the same time?

Don’t know what happened on the night that they were not spotted on the circuit, before the start. Basically, tonight I was with the second group and as usual the first lap is a bit of ‘feeling your way’. There was a lot of very short ‘up and over’ stuff going on, which was grand as the wind was pretty strong in places. We were doing pretty well with a lot of strong people stretching it a bit when they got the chance and there were slightly less calls of “steady” than last time. When we came up on the problem section, we slowed down and went around the cars (stopped at the red light) and single-filed it up through the affected part. It was far from ideal but I thought we’d basically be doing this each time. As it happened, we had some sort of shout from Joe as we passed the start/ finish but couldn’t make it out. One of the Marshalls cars came by, pulled up beside us and informed us the race was abandoned due to the road works/ traffic lights. We decided to complete the lap at this stage so we just made our way back to the sign on. It was a bit of an anti-climax. Another new experience for me – only started racing 4 races ago. Of course, once the race was abandoned, the drizzle stopped and I believe the wind died down………

I was knackered yesterday so didn't head out. Pity that it was called off.

Yeah was in same group as Cadex (we rode straight through the lights in single file which maybe in retrospect wasn't the best idea ).
Fingal Coco are great at setting up temporary traffic lights at short notice (they weren't there fri).
Prob should have been checked before hand as could hane changes to the Nags head or Garristown circuit fairly easily.
Still got in 60K though and ManU were beaten so all was not lost :D

yea, I could n't get out last night, so will head over after work ( clonee ) and
aim to get there 6.30 or so to get a good warm up in ...... well needed for a 10 mile ....
I don't know what the circuit is exactly but I know the road and it's undulating enough ... I would guess we might heading 5 miles out from Rathoath on the Skreen Road and turn for 5 miles back ...... here come the pain !!!!

    Biker Joe.

I've not done a 10 miler before. I hope it's hillier than a hilly thing, otherwise I haven't a chance of getting good points.

it kinda draggy, no climbs per say, and i would n't worry about the points as they are based on you're category and not on the fastest time !.... which is good in some respects and not in others .... I am just doing them as part of training .....

It should have been changed to another circuit regardless of the traffic lights, the roads were so poor (except for one section), the challenge was keeping upright rather than keeping pace.

Gave up calling potholes at one stage co they went on constantly on the left for about a mile.
Keeps you on your toes though !
Looks like the xcross bike was a good call :D
(we ran an X cross race at christmas and the gravel tracks were in better conditions than some of the roads arounf Oldtown)
