hi, some advice on how to clean a handbag please!

I have a guess bag that i love but it's getting a but grubby looking ... its a mix of white canvas and tan leather. The problem seems to be the handle (this is made up of the white canvas material and it's braided) and because i'll normally have maybe some make up on my hands (transferred from my face of course!) and false tan etc its starting to look dirty :o.

I was thinking about spraying a bit of vanish or something on it, popping it into a pillowcase and putting it on a delicate wash ... has anybody else tried anything like this?

I definitely wouldn't put MY Guess bags in the washing machine - delicate cycle or not. Too risky! If anything happened, I would be inconsolable! :P

I'd try to spot clean the canvas part first. The spot cleaner that came with Dryel (the DIY dry-cleaning kit) was brilliant for spot cleaning anything - but i don't think they sell it here anymore. Vanish will also do the job. Also try Baby wipes or facial cleansing wipes - i find these the best for getting make-up off fabric.

Are there care instructions on the tag inside the bag?

Was gonna say baby wipes too, they're pretty good for spot cleaning!
