Killzone 2 - Patch 1.27

    Killzone 2 is getting a pretty sweet update tomorrow, patch 1.27.

    1.27 adds:
    • A party system - squads/faction now persist across games.
    • An option to change manually change faction and thus balance teams. Points will carry over if you switch.
    • An option to make the controls more sensitive, in both campaign and MP.
    • An option to unlock all the badges for all players in Skirmish mode.
    • A variety of gameplay tweaks.
    The gameplay tweaks are that the Assault class now has 50 armour hit points instead of 100, Air Support bots are more precise and have a bit more hit points and spawn points (outside of the main spawn point in the base) no longer give you momentary invulnerability.

    According to this post on NeoGAF by someone who works at Guerrila Games, the new patch adds an improved search functions as well, giving more information about the server. How much more information we'll have to wait and see.

    I expect to see some Boards.ie KZ2 clan action to try out the tweaks! :D

    Yes some of this stuff should have been worked out in the MP beta but this should make KZ2 even better, it was already brilliant so it's great to see a developer respond to community feedback.

    Need to play KZ2. Haven't got past the 3rd level and I haven't accepted my invite I got a few weeks ago !!

    I might play some later on, need to get back into the game I use to be alright at it and coming in top 3 but now people just play flat out and I don't really play too much. Anyways I will try to get clan matches going more often than usual and see how things go. Anyone else up for a bit later on in the nite? Should be online at about 1 or 2 maybe after my brother is playing UFC so it depends on when he is finished.

    Yes, please get some clan matches going :D I'm on my summer holidays soon so I'll have plenty of time to play. Otherwise I'm just going to start bugging you, acidburn and Wolforager to organise something. I'm looking forward to getting some use out of the party system and squads that persist across games. That way the four of us could play some public matches together, it'd be lolworthy.

    I'm not 100% sure about this. I think you can switch at any time, but only onto the team with less players. That's what Guerrila Games said in that interview and I think this system works best to balance teams. Autobalancing works in other games but it can really piss you off at times, so perhaps this system will work best.

    How so? It's entirely optional so it's not like it'll change for us at all if we don't select the option. Unless you mean that some players will have an advantage over others? That is a possibility I suppose, I guess we'll just have to try it out and see.

    Yes good idea, I am going to play some Pixel Junk Monsters now and then go back onto Killzone in about 30mins. I will be out tonight and won't be back till tomorrow if anyone wants a game then.

    I haven't got it either... Was supposed to be on the 28th. They must have found some bugs.

    The controlls really are terrible its not a matter of getting used to them you get used to something after a hour playing not after months.

    If they really are terrible how come swathes of people love the Killzone 2 controls? Right off the bat thousands of people were fragging each other quite merrily in Killzone 2 MP, so it would appear most people got used to them quickly. As a keyboard and mouse user primarily I love the weighty KZ2 controls.

    I mostly like them too. However i do get a pissed off when i'm being shot from the side and it takes me freaking ages just to turn let alone take aim. The analog sticks only start working when you turn them more than half way, that's a bit annoying too.

    I can totally understand that, but it makes the movement a bit more realistic. I mean most people carrying a heavy gun can't snap around in a picosecond. Whether a game should be aiming for that kind of realism though I'm not sure. I mean I have a lot of fun playing KZ2 MP so that's enough for me really. I love the precision of the controls, I find it much easier to get headshots and aim at people at middle to far distance in KZ2 than I do in other games. High precision mode sounds like it might solve the issues you've been having.

    I realize that the current controls are to get across the feeling of realism, but if i was a soldier, was shot from the side (and like in killzone i can take 20 bullets without dying) i'd sure as hell whip around as fast as i could to take out the guy.
