    i realise IE doesn't have a password manager, so i guess its a non-runner
however some might still use its auto-complete feature.

wow, i'd expected more people to use a password manager, but there you go...either some don't or some believe i could be gathering sensitive information :P

then again, maybe some only have a few logins and use the same password for them all ;)

Safest password manager will always be your head.

Storeing all your passwords in one place other than your head isnt a fantastic idea

Of the above the worst places are IE and Firefox

i think a password manager is a great idea. :D

if you have 20-30 accounts online, a password manager is an ideal solution, unless you can use the same password for all accounts, which isn't recommended either, is it?

and it isn't recommended to write them down on paper or store them in a file somewhere..so these utilities are just the job.

you might work at a company which requires you to remember lots of passwords to access documents, network shares or folders, remembering all of these can be troublesome for majority of people.

as long as the master key for all passwords is good and kept out of reach from "X", then there is little chance of your passwords being recovered.
Of the above the worst places are IE and Firefox

yeah...IE shouldn't be there since there is no password manager (my mistake) but AFAIK Firefox does have password manager (i don't use it though)
maybe you're thinking of the autocomplete feature? yes, its not good place to store passwords.
