A five-year-old girl found living with cats and dogs has been taken into care in Russia.
The girl, who had been shut up in a flat in the Eastern Siberian city of Chita with the animals for her entire life, could not speak Russian and acted like an dog when police took her into care.
"For five years, the girl was 'brought up' by several dogs and cats and had never been outside," police said.
"The unwashed girl was dressed in filthy clothes, had the clear attributes of an animal and jumped at people."
The flat had no heat, water or sewage system.
A police spokeswoman said the girl, known as Natasha, is being monitored by psychologists in an orphanage.
The mother of the girl, who appears to be only two-years-old, is being questioned by police but her father has not been found yet.
"When carers leave the room, the girl jumps at the door and barks," the police said.
Feral children usually exhibit the behaviour of the animals with whom they have had closest contact - a condition known as the Mowgli Syndrome after the fictional child from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book who was raised by wolves in the jungle.
Such children have usually built strong ties with the animals with whom they lived and find the transition to normal human contact extremely traumatic.

Be interesting to see how children would grow up if we were not taught anything/all adults disappeared. It seems they had a pet human.

'Animal language'

A police statement said the girl was unwashed, dressed in filthy clothes and had the "clear attributes of an animal".

"For five years, the girl was 'brought up' by several dogs and cats and had never been outside," the statement said.

The police said the girl had managed to master "animal language only", but seemed able to understand Russian.

Earlier this year, President Dmitry Medvedev called for more action on child abuse.

He said 750,000 children in Russia were living in "socially hazardous conditions".

Shane Dunphy is a former social worker who has written three books on his experiences through the years. One of the books has a case of feral children in it.
I can't think of all the titles, Wednesdays Child, Hush Little Baby & another one, but they are unreal to read.

Seriously it has happened. As I said in a previous post Shane Dunphy has written books on his experiences on being a social worker & has come across feral children, twins would you believe.
Their ways & movements were feral even though they had parents & a 'home'.
Seriously his books would make the hair stand on the back of your neck but it would also open your eyes up to the horror some people inflict on their children.

The only explanation I can think of is that, although the girl is 5, she HAS THE APPEARANCE of a 2 year old. Possibly due to malnourishment?

I assumed it meant mental age / ability. But you're probably right.

What a terrible story however.

There are a few documentated cases here as well

Lyokha, Kaluga, Central Russia (December 2007). He had been living with a pack of wolves, had typical wolflike behavior and reactions. He was unable to speak any human language. Taken to a Moscow hospital, he received some medical treatment, a shower and nailtrim and several meals before escaping from the building. He is believed to still be in the wild.[29]

The Irish Sheep Boy

We have very little information about the Irish Sheep Boy. What there is comes from Tulp (Observationes Medicae) where he tells us that this boy resisted capture for some time (sounds familiar), and once caught and returned to human society he exhibited at least three tell-tale signs of the feral child: not wanting to change his diet (from grass and hay), enduring temperature extremes, and not wanting to stay among humans.
Did the Irish Sheep Boy live with sheep?

Tulp says this boy lived among wild sheep, although there is no evidence that there were any wild sheep in Ireland at that time. He was taken to Amsterdam when aged about 16, but Tulp isn't clear about what age he was captured.

This nothing new,Russia and areas like that seem to have a horrendous attitude towards children.
I saw them on tv few years back they showed over fifteen cases.One girl was 17 or older when they found her.And had no communication skills at all.
Also the children who live in the sewers,They are dumped and kids 6 upwards are feeing them and taking care of babies and toddlers.

I have heard of two cases in Ireland but i dont know anything about them.

A mystery in a hen house

Three schoolboys noticed some strange activity at one of two hen houses at Halfpenny's field at Crossgar. One boy who later gave evidence about his discovery, explained how when passing one of the hen houses he heard someone walking about inside. He went over for a closer look and after checking the door, which he found locked, went to look in through the window. The windows were covered on the inside by old sacks but as he was there someone lifted the covering and peered out. "I saw either a wee boy or a wee girl with long hair", he stated. "I could see down to its waist and it had no clothes on, as far as I could see. I asked what its name was, and got no answer. I asked again but got no reply."

The boy told the police that during the school holidays he went up to the hen houses again. This time he was accompanied by his friend. He said that once again the door was locked but when he knocked at the window the young child lifted up the sacking and put its hands up to the netting wire on the window. The children told how they next visited the hen house on two other occasions, each time with more friends, and on each occasion they saw the child, it was locked in the hen house. On the last occasion, which was about one month before the child was rescued, one of the boys, Sean McMullan told of knocking on the window. They could hear something shuffling inside then, before very long, someone came to the window and tried to lift up the bag that was covering it.
The authorities free the Irish Chicken Boy

The NSPCC and the police were notified. The child was named as Kevin Halfpenny, a seven-year old boy. He was immediately taken to the Nazareth Lodge Children's Home. While there he was examined by doctors who were horrified to find that he only weighed two stone. His height was a mere 30 inches high and it was claimed that he was suffering from rickets for at least five years due to continual denial of sunlight.
