Not sure if anyone you guys have been following the progress.......was just watching the scores of Joe Ward vs A Russian in the last 8 and he stopped him in the 2nd round.

BTW the russians have been dominating the c/ships. What a win for the kid.....delighted.

Joe is in the semi's on Friday 29th at about 3pm Armenia time.......which is about 11am our time. The scores will be on the AIBA site.

    He fights Ravshanjon Abdunazarov UZB.

Have to say the overall amateur boxing in this country has come so much in the last 5 years........credit to the various clubs that produce these kids and also to the IABA.

One thing that bugs me about media reports on boxing in this country is the way they report QF as "one win away from Braonze". I'm fairly certain in Britain they say "oe win away from guaranteeing a medal"

Amazing to think how we're winning medals at all levels now. Great to see

Thats an incredible performance. Truly outstanding to perform so well throughout the tournament

    Pic and short report here
Ward, meanwhile, will be the toast of Ireland after claiming the country's first medal at the AIBA World Junior Championships and to cap it off it was gold with a stunning third round stoppage over home favourite Hayk Khachatryan of Armenia in the 70kg final. Ward was 16-1 up when the bout was stopped with just six seconds remaining to the final bell. "If it was up to me Joe would get the boxer of the tournament award," Irish coach Jim Moore said. "He's been absolutely brilliant all week. He was very patient in the first and second rounds (in the final) but when he moved up through the gears in the third he just ran away with it, he was outstanding."
