gardai procedure regarding suicide

    hi,
I'm an author working on a novel, and i need some technical advice from either a garda, or someone who knows the system.

A young man living in a small rural town, finds the dead body of a young girl hanging from a tree. He informs the local garda, which is one new recruit and a sergeant. What happens next? what procedure do the gardai follow. From taking the body down, to informing the family, and sending body for post-mortem.

Now, offically the case is suicide, but the young garda believes from the post mortem results that the girl may have been abused shortly before her death. What are the correct procedures he must do if he is to follow his suspicions?

Plus, as a suicide, do gardai or other officers have to be informed of the suicide, or is it just dealt with by the two gardai in the small town? And do the post mortem results get given directly to these two gardai, or are they sent somewhere else?

i know it's a lot of questions, but hopefully someone out there has the answers..

    thanks.

No offence intended but I dont think any-one of you questions are answerable in an open public forum.

Garda procedure is not totally secretive but no serving member will comment on any of the above without know you personally.

    Sorry

See Coronors Act 1964 for all information you need, it explains the obligation on Garda re any death

I wont comment on several other aspects of your question, contact Garda Press Office

The only reason i referenced the Coronors Act is because it is public information

    OP,

I dont feel very comfortable with allowing this topic to go ahead. You say you are writing a novel and thats fine but I dont want to set a prescedant where anyone can come on here claiming to be researching a topic for whatever reason but are really trying to find out if correct procedures were used for an incident.

Having said that I will direct you to the Garda Press and Public Relation Office who may be able to help you.
    Press and Public Relations Office
Address:Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8.

    Telephone:+353 1 666 2032/39

Journalists who wish to be added to the press e-mail notification service should contact the Garda Press Office at the details above.

I hope you understand my position.
