Apparently, a Luftwaffe Tornado that made an emergency landing yesterday. Cockpit fill with smoke or something.

If they need to do a quick test flight when they have it fixed, Galway Bay is a great place for that :D

Luftwaffe serial 45+53, the other one didnt land, it landed at Shannon with an engine shutdown

Does the Irish Government allow foreign military aircraft into its airspace unannounced?
I know we don't have the capabilities to detect half of them but if the Brits/French etc were found training off our coast lines would anything be done?

Think they have to go through a Govt Dept first. And no they cant come in unannounced, i know there is nothing to stop them but they generally dont do it.

Dont know about you but id have no complaints to some Rafales or F1 Mirages or Harriers going up and down the Coast:)

    45+53 seems to be MarineFlieger.

Apparently she was MarineFlieger, now GAF CN is: (637/GS201/4253)

In that case they could have been out over the Atlantic and Shannon was the the nearest when trouble struck.

In an emergency I don't think anyone would be asking to see his permission slip!

it was on yesterday's sun, the tail was all black when it landed.

Tornado's tails are always filthy black... the thrust reverser I think must blow the exhaust gases over the tail fin.

    Still love Tornado's

Dohhhhh just read it's Shannon , ignore my earlier post

Yeah an emergency is different I was just thinking if foreign air forces (even navy's) use our air space/waters as their own private training grounds.
Unknown to us paddies that is!?
Might cause a bit of offence on the international front.

..........I was just thinking if foreign air forces (even navy's) use our air space/waters as their own private training grounds................
I would think that they would not do so. There are designated military airspace areas in Europe. They would need civilian permission to enter/use commercial airspace. They just follow the ATC restrictions as if they were a normal civilian aircraft. (maybe a different track for speed/height reasons)

And I assume most air forces would prefer to train over their own areas for safety.

I assume the we would allow overflights by RAF/RN aircraft heading out to ships/incidents in the Atlantic. (Unlike DeValera et al)

For example: The Brecon Beacons area in Wales is used for RAF training but at the weekends is availible for commercail traffic. (always invade on a weekend!)

Correct, the Exhaust gasses are literally thrown back over the Aircraft by Reverse "Buckets" that clamp together one from the top and one from the bottom, they clamp together directly behind the exhaust rapidly slowing the Tonka Down. The Buckets are located at the top and bottom of the Exhaust and are pulled over the Exhaust.
