Lads,
Sorry, but I need to tell this great story that happened this week but have not found out from the boards.ie team if we can have a dedicated Falconry Forum (but we do have one for Frisbee!!).

Anyway, if you are interested in a great 'lost & found' falconry story that shows just how small the world is, see International Falconry Forum page
http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=66479

I have just posted it and it is some fantastic coincidence.

Not sure when we'll get some space to post Falconry stories for the boards.ie subscibers, so I'll keep posting under 'hunting' which it is.

take care all.
Dave

We could always invade the Frisbee forum, turn up in the shooting gear with the dog trailers on tow. Fire up the barbie and throw on a few venison burgers. Have a competition between the dogs and the Tree huggers as to the best retreive of the Frisbee

Right so.....

Would you believe this??? Spooky or what

This is a bit of a tale about last 7 days!

Last Monday 18th May 'nightprowler' - Jurgen in Clare West of Ireland advertises Imprint Peregrine & Goss for sale.

Tuesday 19th my mate 'free flyer' Dave is working with me in Wexford on building my new flights and says he regrets getting rid of his FHH now that his family circumstances have changed for the better.

Tuesday 19th Dave (free flyer) sends PM to Jurgen (nightprowler) to enquire about his Goss for sale.

Wednesday 20th - nightprowler 'cannot speak as he's looking for his lost bird'

Friday 22nd , 2.30pm, I get a call at the bird centre from my local wildlife ranger asking if anyone on my area had lost a 'hawk'. I called around a few lads, but no one had lost a bird.

Friday 22nd Dave talks to Jurgen and agree's to meet today (Wed 27th May) to collect the Goss.

Monday 25th, Lunchtime, I get a call from Wexford Wildfowl Centre saying they had the 'hawk' that was spotted last Friday and they had collected same from someone who had captured it in a dog kennel.

Monday 25th 2.30 pm Wildlife ranger drops 'hawk' at my centre and confirm its a Pere / Saker. I check her in at 1.7lbs, ident the ring and as keel was V sharp fed her.

Monday 3pm owner identified and yes you must have guessed it, it was Jurgen and he's over the moon its his.

Coincidence or what that Dave was talking to him about the Goss and all the while I'm talking about Jurgen's lost 'hawk' (as Joe Public described it).

Question: we cannot fathom out how the Pere/Saker covered 200Kms from Monday to being spotted Friday at 2pm. Jurgen thinks its a 'migratory' thing as the Wildfowl Centre is a migration point on Sth Coast of Ireland.

Jurgen and Dave meet (as I write at 3pm Wednesday 27th May) and exchange birds. Great story and thanks to the National Parks & Wildllife team for sorting it out in 7 days.

"Them fw" seem to be away on an extened holiday (since 25th April!) as I have not heard back, unless I have upset them!

I may have to post the falconry stuff on the bouncy castles or tattoos & piercings forums, might get someone attention.

Dave, I searched through the entire Forums forum and can't find any post by you in there save for the one on April 24 when you asked Seamus how to ask for a Falconry forum (and he told you how) and the one you posted last night asking him why he'd not replied to your request for that forum.

I can't find your actual request anywhere in there.

You did remember to post one, right?

Dave, you didn't actually start a new thread in the Forums forum. That's probably why you haven't heard back about it.

I've moved your previous one into the Forums forum to save you the hassle.

Thanks for the help, not sure what went wrong, I read through all the info and saw that I should'nt hassle (i.e. expect it to be done in 1 day!) and sent the following on 24th April:
All, As one of the gang suggested, I have dropped a note to one of our super generous fantastic luvly Mods and hope to hear back soon about getting a falconry forum included. I would prefer under hunting (which it is, but located within 'shooting' - not sure) if poss, if not it may have to go under general sports heading.
Cheers,
David
I'll try again. Again thanks...
David

JW, I have to hold my hand up and say I seem to have got it wrong and did'nt post the origil request for a falconry forum thread correctly.

I think I may have done it better this time.

As for hassle & bad press, I can hack it (another term originating in falconry, dont ya know!). Not sure how I can get much hassle for helping birds of prey back to the wild, lets see how many small minds are out there!

Anyway, is summer over again!!
Take care,
David

Don't worry Dave, if there's hassle to be had, we'll not be shy in coming forward!:D
