Rail Travel to Turkey

I don't know how realistic this is but I'm thinking of travelling across Europe by train to Turkey, probaly Istanbul.

Would anyone have any information about getting there, or what to do/avoid? I'll probably be travelling alone, which will make me slightly more weary of being taken advantage of in any way, so any advice would be appreciated.

Apart from that, though, I'm really looking for any information on how best to get to Istanbul, while keeping costs down.

    Thanks a million.

www.seat61.com is a good website for train travel across Europe and further.

After Istanbul its well worth your while travelling a bit further east to a region called Cappadocia. Apart from amazing rock formations it also has some of the worlds cheapest hot-air ballooning (approx €110 for 90 min spin). Beautiful area, google it and see.
