Just wondering what motorists think of their 10 point plan for changing the city.

Obviously some of it is grand, but a 30kph speed limit? Has anyone tried driving that slow? I think even cyclists would break that.
And even narrower roads? Car free days? Banning cars from certain streets? Make Pearse Street even worse? Oh god help us!

It's a bit vague, but i'm all in favour of reducing the number of cars in the city centre and improving facilities for pedestrians/cyclists.

Let's face it, cars are about as at home in the city centre as they would be in a swimming pool. An orbital road with car parks and a car-free city centre is the way forward, IMO. And don't give me any of this 'we love driving' nonsense - driving in the city centre is torture for all concerned.;)

As long as it all stays in Dublin!!! :D:D:D

Eamon Ryan & co. don't see beyond the Pale anyway, they think everyone has access to regular buses, can cycle to work, etc. Head in the clouds stuff, being in government is the best thing for them, they finally realise the real difficulties & problems out there.

Let the greens get rid of their cars in favor of push cycles.. that way they are easier to mow down :D

The construction of Metro-North will provide a high capacity public transport spine to the city. Let’s prepare for it by taking cars that don’t need to be there out of Westmorland Street and Dawson Street in advance of construction

Maybe that makes sense for this specific example, but this ongoing concept of punishing motorists before (or without at all) giving drivers a decent alternative really annoys me.

I tried driving at 30kph today on the way home. Even in the city, if the Greens are serious about that speed limit they need a reality check.

Motors hat on: Dey tuk r roads.

Planners hat on: It makes perfect sense, cars really don't belong in a city centre provided that a high quality public transport system is provided that serves all areas without all routes having to go through the centre of the city. An orbital route system combined with existing routes would go some way towards this.

Once all those things are implemented and fully operational I would be fully supportive of the Greens plan. Also driving in the city centre does not exist, it is merely an exercise in clutch control.

    Hmm!

Apart from the usual wooly thinking the non-green consequences of their anti-private motorist stupidity will allow more ordinary people to hate them more.

As they are Fianna Fail in Green and they are led by the biggest Hypocrite in politics John Gormlesss what more can you expect?

Anyway it will generate more hate against them so they will be chucked out of government and being fianna fails a$$ wipes all the quicker

    Roll on the elections

Did Mary White come up with these ideas?
New Beckett Bridge –an opportunity for Dublin
When the Macken Street Bridge opens in 2010 we’ll take the opportunity to free the centre of Dublin from cars that have no business being there
    translate: you car driving bastard!
    8. Less One-way Streets and more city life
One ways streets kill off the economic and social life of the city. How many thriving businesses have retail frontage on Pearse Street?
I would blame Trinity for most of the bleakness of Pearse St.!
    9. A Multi-Storey Bicycle park at Heuston Station
The Central Station at Amsterdam has a multi-storey floating bicycle park for 2,500 bicycles designed by an Irish architect. We’ll provide something similar on the River Liffey at Hesuton Station so that commuters can bike and train with ease to and from the city centre.
How many people will want to cycle to Hueston and then walk into town?

No mention of removing the tolls so that you can get from the port to the other side of the city without being screwed on the tolls!

I've yet to see a Green carry his/her weekly shopping home any other way than in the boot of their car...

P*ssartists. Provide a viable alternative FIRST.
