flipping the faders

heres a thought that i came up with while looking at the upside down faders pic that studiorat posted.

wouldnt it be pretty slick if you could flip your faders in your daw? the reason for this is (IMO) fader rides would be more intuitive. let me explain:

when you're riding a vocal pass the idea is to tame the dynamics a little before you hit the compressor. now when a vocal dips you have to raise the fader to compensate. what if you could flip the fader for stuff like this so that when a vocal dips you can dip the fader with it but you'd actually be doing the opposite.

i'd find being able to follow the vocal in a logical up/down manner would make for more precise fader passes.

    any thoughts?

    Interesting.
A marmite suggestion I'd say...some people would find it extremely intuitive, others completely the opposite.

I think it'd be a useful feature in a DAW for the reason Brewer mentioned, means you're not gonna get blasted out of it if your controller gets nudged...

I think anything that kicks in the Left side brain whilst music making isn't a positive in my opinion.

paul theres a ton of stuff that uses the left side of the brain when we're recording. everytime we touch a piece of gear we use the left side (the decision to use it?)

but if you think about it my idea, while coming from the left, is more geared towards the right.

think about it. you're doing a vocal pass and you sit back and close your eyes and just let your hand flow with the vocal. thats a pretty non-linear way of doing it in that your hand flows with the sound (the same way as you'd do a pass on the pan pots)

You mean like the bbc's reverse faders?you may be able to unscrew them and reverse mount them if they are just like a block that are screwed and wired in:)

Following this train of thought, should we also string a guitar the other way around? Low E on the bottom, High E on top?
