I'm in the market for a Tablet PC.

I've narrowed it down to either a Lenovo X61 or a Dell Latitude XT. Either will be bought off eBay for ~500-700 (Refurbished or returns)

I've hands on experience with the Lenovo. Build like a tank and very nice to use, extremely well thought out.

From the reviews I've read online the Dell has a weaker processor (A 1.3 LV Intel Core 2 Duo, rather then the 1.8 or so in the Lenovo) and it has quite poor battery performance compared to the X61. On the other hand it has the capacitive touchscreen that now has multitouch drivers available which would be great for Windows 7.

I'm leaning towards the Dell at the moment, merely due to the superior screen.

Does anybody have any experience with the Dell?

Yes I had one for about 7 months but sold it on for something smaller. The build quality was generally very good, although the screen was held in place by a single central hinge which developed a small bit of play after a while. Battery life was so so at around 2 hours. I generally liked its size and weight, but owning a 13" laptop meant this had to go in favour of something much smaller for travel. The thing that absolutely drove me nuts in the end though was the slow 4200rpm HDD. I replaced it with an Mtron SSD and it made a big difference to boot times and launching applications. The U7700 is a dual core processor so its not actually that slow - its significantly better than what you get in todays netbooks. You should also check out the HP TX2 which also has multi-touch capability and should be available on ebay in the price range you mention.

    Cheers for that.

Did you have any issues along the lines of the screens driver not being found ( http://www.gottabemobile.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6595&PN=1 )

I was looking into an SSD, providing the price is right, and I'd be bumping up the RAM to the max aswell.

I had no problems with screen drivers (must have been one of the lucky ones!). One other thing - there are two types of display, the LED screen and a more expensive one for outdoor use. I found the LED screen perfectly acceptable so I wouldn't worry about spending the money on the other. Good luck with your purchase.
