putting has been a bit off the last while so decided id give the cross-handed method a go. been using it a few days now & its made a massive improvement - particularly on line, still finding the pace on long putts but for 20' and under its been a revelation.

anyone else here made the switch and noticed the same....any tips...did it last!? :D

I can only use it for putts inside about 10 feet, i find the longer putts way to hard to get the distance right. Maybe i just need to practice it more, i find i definatley hit the putts a lot straighter though.

I've been using this grip for the past few weeks. Really helps to square the shoulders and it's made me much more accurate on shorter putts. I also struggle with it on longer putts, say 15ft +. I generally revert back to my older grip for longer putts.

"They" say its technically the best way to putt and that they would teach more people to putt that way by default. Never tried it myself.

Agree, Harrington has stated if he was coaching kids he would ensure back handed putting was they wa to go. He only changed to back handed when he turned pro.

I tried it a couple of years ago and it worked for a year or so. But I'm back to the old way again. I suppose it is good to vary it a bit and if it helps you roll a few more in, happy days.

I did struggle with distance control on the longer putts as well.

was thinking about doing that. i find that im hitting the ball fairley consistently off the centre cross-handed, whereas not so with conventional .... so im probably no better off going back that way with the long ones. i think i prob just need to put the time in and get used to it.

Tried it for about a year, and like anything new it worked quite well.....the magic just gradually wore off....

No matter what I try (used the claw for a bout a year as well) I always seem to revert to conventional...

Leads me to believe that no matter what method you try they all work for a brief period of time and that essentially putting is a mind over matter job..

I adopted it a few years ago. Had putting lessons and pro said nothing about changing it. I think it just helps to eliminate one of the many variables, that is using wrist action to flick the ball.
I think if you use this grip and learn to rock your shoulders to make the stroke then you will get good consistency as there are less moving parts.

I had problems starting the ball on line, esp on short putts, I found this helped me! (Although to be fair Tiger & Phil putt with their hands the other way around and it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. In fact to hazard a guess I'd say their putting is a bit better than mine!)

I tried it for a couple of years and as most have said I reverted to a conventional grip from over 20 feet or so.

I'm back to normal again but I've started to miss a few short putts so I may go back.

completely agree. tinker with my putting every now and again, be it wide/narrow stance, how i grip it. find the new way works great to begin with, then it becomes normal and not as effective.

think its like getting a new driver. your excited and just want to hit the ball straight and far. then after a while ya can remember bad shots ya hit with it etc, magic wares off, performes like your old driver.

most important 6 inches in golf, between the left and right ear, unfortunatley :(

I've always putted with a cross handed grip. I would definitely recommend it. My putting grip is probably the best thing about my game TBH :(

Started using it last year, love it and hopefully will never have to change.

As it happens I play all my golf with the cross handed grip: driving, iron play and putting. Putting would be the strongest part of my game. Driving is usually very straight but would lose a little on distance. Been playing like this for over 10yrs now touched 9 handicap at best but settling on 12 now as dont get to play as much as i should :(
