Your best bet is probably adverts.ie, if you're not fussy about second hand :)

Yeah I've bought a few second hand laptops and they were great for a while but eventually died on me so I'm looking for something new. Thansk though

you are gonna really struggle with performance on a laptop thats new for under 300 bucks with an optical drive.... id consider 2nd hand and a ram upgrade in it when you buy it.

If its just for internet, then your best bet would probably be a netbook.

You'd get one with XP for 250 with a built in webcam.

he is looking to have a cd/dvd drive with the machine also ,

OP. even though its only for internet and no high end stuff , vista is pretty resource hungry and is gonna demand a certain amount of ram.
they reccomend that you have at least 2 gig of ram to function properly , it will function on 1 gig but when the pc is a few months old, after you have been using it for a while , they just tend to slow down gradually as they get older, and thats where the extra ram etc. will make the difference.

maybe purchase the €300 laptop and save up for some more ram and install it further down the line , its pretty easy , there are plenty of video's on you tube to show you what to do,

    regards,

    dave.

Why run Vista? It's practically obsolete anyway and anyone looking to buy a basic budget laptop isn't going to give a fiddlers about the limitations of 32-bit architecture or whatever.

windows 7 is not fully released as of yet so vista is more than likely the operating system that comes with the laptop , either that or a downgrade to xp or linux which most people dont have a clue how to use properly ,

practically impossible new. stretch to €400-€450 and you should be able to find something.

otherwise your best bet is something like the EEEPC which can be picked up for 200 in some places, and an external optical drive.
