    Hi folks,

I’m at a stage where I cannot do anymore home troubleshooting due to not having any specialised equipment or any more patience. So what I’m hoping you can help me with is; suggesting some good reputable pc-repair/trouble-shooters in the Dublin area please?

    A bit of background:
I have a 'TriGem KLOSS KL-I915A' (http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=988&page=2) which is a small form factor pc that is ideal for me as a home theatre project. But about 6 months ago while i was making OS updates the pc died, at the time I narrowed it down to either a processor or motherboard issue. Both of which I couldn’t take my debugging any further with.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated?
    Cheers

Do you have power ? do you hear the hdd spinning up ? are you getting any beep codes ?

yeah, power is been supplied to the motherboard, i went through the lengthly process of ordering in a new small form power supply from the uk only to find that was not the problem. Yes, the harddrive is spinning and i cant remember if there is a beep sequence or not because its been 6+ months since i worked on it.

when this machine is stripped down to the bare essentials.. i mean power, motherboards, processor and ram.. it still has no life.

Hence why Im happy ro see if a reputable pc-repair guy/shop can pin point the problem.

Any suggestions for reputable pc-repair guy/shop?

Tough. Plug it in, and boot it up, and tell me the beeps.

As for a shop, dunno. PC World, Dixons, etc, are sh|te. IT Direct used to be good, many moons ago, but don't know now...

    haha good man.. :)

The Syco: okay i will check that over the weekend if i get a chance, but if this weather holds up the last place ill be over the weekend is sitting in front of a pc.

Im surprised actually that i havent heard the likes of A1Computers etc being mentioned.. After testing it for The Syco ill look into the 'IT Direct ' suggestion.

    Disconnect all the drives
    Loosen and tighten all cables
    Reseat the RAM and CPU

    Remove RAM
    you should now get beeps

If you don't get beeps http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23008

or borrow a multimeter to check powersupply

I rechecked all cables = No beeps
I disconnected all unnecessary cards/drives = No beeps
I removed the RAM = No beeps
I rechecked the power supply with a multi meter and it seems fine.

Im gonna pick up a Bios POST Diagnostic Card as suggested, they are fairly cheap from the UK on ebay.

The Bios is AMI so ill report back when I have the POST code.

So i bought a Bios POST Diagnostic Card and got a read out of 'no-c' meaning the CPU was knackered i assumed. I then ordered a replacement CPU online which arrived today... but still no life from the machine. :(

The company that originally built the machine has since closed and their is very little relavent info on the net, especially with regards to buying a replacement motherboard.

Is it time to chuck it in the bin??

    you assumed...

you didnt google the error code?

youve got a new PSU and a new CPU

might as well build anew :)

I checked the Bios Card manual which stated that 'no-C' meant dead CPU.

On building anew: The thought has crossed my mind but I cant find the motherboard online for this model.

Don't see why you'd need the exact same mobo...

Why not just get a different one?

Well because its a small form pc, the motherboard sits face up and has fairly specific demensions. Also, the front of the pc has a large display area which has a small data cable running to the front (so-to-speak) area of the motherboard.

I dont know much when it comes to motherboard specifics, but wouldnt it be difficult to find one that matches with regards to component location, including output locations for the back panel?

Any good suggestions of sites that sell small form motherboards that may suit?

Its just a Form Factor. Google your current motherboard + form factor type, then google that type. you should pull up plenty of alternatives.

I thought about building a small form PC but you cant put a monster GPU in them :)
