    We all have them.
    So spill :P

A friend of mine with fair colouring once tried to dye her eyebrows a light shade of brown.
She accidentally left the dye on for a few minutes too long and her eyebrows went dark dark brown.
To make matters worse, she then scrubbed her eyebrows to try and get rid of the dye, to no avail!

She came into school the next day with near-black eyebrows and red, enflamed skin surrounding them.

    Yikes!

I once decided to wax my own armpits with veet cold wax strips. The pain was horrific - so much torture and sometimes wax would stay on the skin or else i'd pull off the strip but no hairs came off with it. I know now you're not meant to wax over the same place twice, but back then I decided sure its already sore and numb from the pain so i'll just keep rippin at it until its all gone. Most hairs were gone anyway.

Next morning woke up in agony armpits are bright red and so sore I couldnt put my arms down! Rang sick into work and everything...just stayed in bed with my arms up and had to keep putting a cold press on them. :o

Next day went into work was still very sore.
Think they only got a bit better on day 4. Lesson learned anyway ha ha :D

When I was a teenager I heard from a friend that olive oil was great for your hair. I used some in the shower but didn't rinse it out properly. The next morning my hair was a greasy mess. I tried washing it in the sink before school but that didn't work. I went to school and by break time people were starting to notice that my hair was greasy looking. I told them that it hadn't dried properly from my shower that morning yet but I don't think they believed me. My saving grace was the fact that we were going swimming in the afternoon. When the bell rang I ran out of the classroom and down to the changing rooms really quickly and got into the swimming pool in record time. It was the first time I'd been so enthusiastic about PE.

The swim and the shower afterwards didn't work so when I got home I had to tell my mother what had happened. Instead of helping me she mocked me for a week. :( I washed my hair 3 times that night and it eventually went back to normal.

I went to this beauty salon near where I live to get my eyebrows waxed because I didn't have time to go to my usual place in town.

The girl waxed and then started plucking. My eyebrows were very red afterwards and one of them stayed like that for about another 2 days. So i decided to go to the doctor. He said it was due to a dirty tweezers I had got an infection.

It was the most disgusting thing ever.

Another time i decided to let my friend dye my hair. Bad move. My hair turned white !

LOL... I actually did this when I was 18!! I was heading off for a girls weekend and was so excited!! I decided I should wax my armpits to save me having to shave them... so spotted those veet wax strips and decided to give them a go!! Went over each armpit about 100 times  I had horrible armpits the whole weekend.. they were more black and blue than red and they got scabby and everything!! :o I got them done in a salon for years afterwards, finally plucked up the courage to wax my own again but used the proper wax and it's fine!!
When I was about 15 I had another incident with hair removal cream!! I decided that I had a moustache that needed to go! (Thinking back now I probably had about 3 blonde hairs ) So I robbed some of my sister's Veet hair removal cream (Probably the one for legs!!!) and slapped it on my lip!! I had some allergic reaction to the stuff and i had a burn/scab mark across my lip for about a week afterwards!! It was horrible because it was around that time where you start fancying and kissing boys too!!!
I also remember an incident with my dad's razor when I was about 5 at the most!!! I decided I wanted to be like my dad and covered myself in shaving foam and started shaving away!! I remember being in the bathroom for ages because i got the shaving foam everywhere and my dad was shouting in to see if i was ok because I had been in there so long!! I came out and i have a shaving cut on my chin!!!
Then there was the time I shaved my toes..... baaaad baaaad move!!!!!

...Been there, done that! Haha! I wanted to remove any traces of hair there - my friend tried to wax it off first - but I chickened out. The wax strip was on my face, she tried to pull it off and I freaked ... so instead of one fast but painful move, we ended up slowly peeling it off my face ... then spending hours trying to wash the wax off!

Then, I decided to use that Veet stuff - ended up in the same position as yourself, allergic reaction and all my upper lip had a red rash above it for days - nothing would mask it! :(

When I was a teenager I suffered from acne on my face -got very frustrated one weekend and decided it would be a good idea to dab the spots and general area with undiluted detol! Result: fairly severe facial burns.

Me and my cousin also bleached our hair with toilet bleach - not a good look!!!

I did this too!! Now I have a very faint scar like half a jaunty Poirot moustache on my upper lip :D

    Does that even work?!

When I was in like 2nd year of school I plucked off most of my eyebrows leaving the thinnest strip of eyebrow ever. My friends have never let me live it down. Took AGES to grow back and repluck them to a nice shape. :o

    Dear God!

Seems like most mishaps are hair related...
Same here, I've had a lip burn incident, dyed half my fringe orange with Jolen, and did the toes thing.. :(

Do you look very similar from behind or something?!

There was a time I shaved my legs, missed a bit and decided to use veet to get the rest... scabs all over my legs for like a week after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

    I LOVE this thread!

I've waxed my underarms too..so glad i'm not alone!
Unfortunatly was rehearsing a musical at the time, so was in AGONY dancing.
I once shaved off my eyebrows and drew them back on because I didn't like the shape

    have had various veet burns.

Cut my own hair and blamed my mum when I went to the hairdresser to get it fixed.

    Shame :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,195 ✭✭✭✭Michellenman

    Haha, who hasn't done that?!

When I was in primary school I really wanted a fringe but my mam wouldn't let me so I cut like 14 hairs in the front section of my hair and wore them on my face as a 'fringe'.

I'd brush them to the side when I was at home so my mam wouldn't notice, who notices 14 hairs?! :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

    Brilliant!

I 'gave myself a fringe' before my 1st school photo!

Mum tried fixing it but the photo speaks for itself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭insert-gear

Did the fringe thing. Got fart goo (shows how old i was) in my hair and decided to cut it out...coulnt get it even so just kept cutting. ended up cutting a line across my forhead (an attempt at a fringe) that was about half a cenimeter to a centimeter longg...and clearly not in anyway even. Horror!

Also went into peter mark (only one of the times theyve messed up my hair), the day before I was starting a new school. Asked them to cut it to below my shoulders, light brown dye, and a bit of a side fringe...

What I got was pretty much jet black hair, cut above my shoulders, weird layers so it stuck out at mad angles and a fringe that went down AND BACK UP AGAIN!!

Also... whats wrong with waxing armpits? I was going to give that a shot... is there something I shouldn't do?

Decided to cut myself a fringe, but cut it too short... so it stuck up for weeks after... took ages to grow out.

    That Veet is dangerous stuff!
Judging by the amount of bad experiences people seem to have had, I doubting whether or not it should be on our shelves anymore!

I'll tell you gals a bad one I've actually kept to myself for years -

I actually used Veet down there before ... It was the sensitive one, meant for bikini lines etc ... but as I was scared of waxing, I decided to use the cream pretty much all over, to remove most of the hair.
Did the trick pretty well, but about an hour after ... serious itching. Got out a little mirror, had a look and the whole area was completely red and inflamed!

    Painful and mortifying!

I've since learned that painful as it is, waxing is the only way to go!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

 I get burns using the sensitive one even on my legs! You're one brave girl!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,488 ✭✭✭pikachucheeks

I think stupid girl is more accurate ;)

I was fine about an hour later, but that scared me!

I haven't really used Veet since, certainly not down there! Even the product apparently specially formulated for sensitive areas!

A friend of mine once shaved her arms, to tell another tale!
    :pac:

I was trying to "fix" a bad haircut and took out the clippers. Without noticing the blade fell off the clippers just as I was shaving the part above my forehead, shaving it completely bare. Obviously this isn't the same as accidently shaving the back or side of your hair so I had to actually shave my head completely bald (it was medium length before)! Luckily this was the start of a midterm (was in 5th year) so when I had come back it had grown to a reasonable length but I spent a week under a hat, mostly indoors :(

I never drink while getting ready for a night out any more ... I tend to get these notions to pluck my eyebrows or cut myself a fringe, or try out weird new combinations of colourful eyeshadow ... disaster!!

I have another Veet story. Back in 2005 I used the in shower one on my legs. That's the one that stays on while you shower and you wash it off at the end. Anyway, I sprayed it on and jumped in the shower but in seconds I was in serious pain. My legs were burning up and had started bleeding so I rinsed them off as fast as I could and jumped out. They kept bleeding and I was in excruciating pain so I rang the doctor and went straight down.

It turned out the Veet had given me a chemical burn and stripped a few layers of skin, and it took less than 5 minutes to do that. I was on antibiotics and an antibiotic cream for a week, and it was in the middle of a heatwave so I couldn't even wear shorts!

so i always get ready prior to drinking :pac:!

LOL Id say just about every girl has tried giving themselves a fringe at one stage or another!!! Its not as easy as it looks haha

I actually did this to my boyfriend a few months ago!! Was giving him his usual blade 3 allover! Took it down to a bare blade to tidy up the edges then stood back for a second to check it over and spotted a couple of hairs sticking out... without thinking I ran the blade over the top of his head!!!:o He knew right away something bad had happened... i really didnt know whether to laugh or cry!! It was a right mess.. I did cry which was probably the only thing that stopped him from killing me!!! On the upside I shaved the whole lot off and we discovered he's sexy as a bald!!

Hehe, those cold wax strips should be banned, sister and myself both suffered :P

I once tried to darken my very blonde hair, it went jet black. So tried to dye over it with a blue-black dye to make it look funky, got a streak of blue where my roots were, no where else. So let it grow out a while, got impatient, bleached it...only the roots bleached, so ended up with half black, half white hair. Got a lot of Cruella DeVille jokes that summer... Also bleached a streak in my hair using lab bleach when I was 13 unsupervised in a lab, just ate my hair away, so cut the other side to match, but using a um, a scapel so was even shorter on that side, so tried to even it up...you can guess the rest...

Been waxing my eyebrows at home for a few years, so decided to try do my 'tasche since it was getting bit obvious. OMG THE PAIN! Not sure how I did it, but every single pore bled, so had a scabby moustache for a few days. :(

I used the cold veet strips (the ones you warm up with your hands) on my upper lip the other day and I was shocked to find no repercussions ...i was expecting blood to gush forth and pimples to rise immediately.

I shaved my arms quite a lot when I was in 2nd year. was just to sensitive about them because the hairs are realllllly long.

    That is actually ... terrifying!
Seriously, that stuff should be taken off the market!
Seems to cause a hell of a lot of damage!

I went to boarding school. A friend of mine was bored one night and asked if she could cut my hair. Being naive and similarly bored, I agreed - I asked her to just trim the ends! About 15 minutes later, chunks of my long brownie-blonde hair were on the floor and I was left with a lop-sided long bob. She cut about four inches off it!
Luckily, I have a very good hairdresser who's well used to me coming in, asking her to deal with the results of my "home hairdressing"
