Where to find / purchase replacement central locking key for Clio?

    Hi Guys,

I've a '98 Clio Mk II. The key I have has infra-red central locking function on it, but it's recently died on me. I tried replacing the battery, but on inspection it looks as though the PCB is completely ballsed (to use a technical term).

Does anyone have any idea where I'd be best off buying a new one? From what I've read online, I think you can re-program these IR keys using a combination of ignition stages and presses of the central locking button inside the car. If that's the case, would I be able to buy one online and re-program it somehow?

Since the key itself is perfectly fine, does a separate little fob or something similar exist, does anyone know?

Note that the alarm / immobiliser have nothing to do with this part (the immobiliser has actually been disconnected by the previous owner and there's no alarm installed).

    Thanks in advance! :)

i had a 99 clio and I got a replacement key fully programmed from my main Renault dealer for €160.

Thanks ShayK. Did that include the alarm as WELL as the central locking?

All I want is the central locking IR fob; I'm not interested in the alarm at all. Is it possible to just get the IR key / fob alone, does anyone know?

did you have 2 fobs on your key? does your car have an aftermarket alarm?

    Hey Busta,

No, I didn't have any fobs whatsoever. I received the car from my sister and all it had were two keys: One bog-standard plastic and metal door/ignition key, the other was identical but had a button and an IR diode on it. The button / IR has now stopped working. I tried replacing the battery, etc. but to no avail. From the looks of the PCB / Circuit Board, it looks like it's been fried or shorted in one way or another.

There is no alarm on the car whatsoever.

One thing to note: The immobiliser has been disabled on the car. I've no idea if that links into the key issue (i.e. makes the keys more expensive or anything), but I definitely don't need anything related to the immobiliser at all.

    Thanks!
