Any advice on Beijing I was offered a job there free apartment plus 800 yo yo a month for spends, it sounds very low but how far would that money get you over there?

Also I have no Chinese whatsoever, would this be a problem or are things signposted in English? English menus etc.

Would love to hear anyones opinions/advice on the place.

I was there two years ago, don't know what your situation is but I'd recommend travelling around China a bit, Shanghai is the business, Beijing is a incredibly polluted but still worth a look. If you are looking for a cool place to stay I'd recommend Templeside Hostel you can find it on hostelworld. This mightened really answer your question but once accommodation is sorted I can't really see you spending a whole lot of cash, food is cheap once you go to the right places, didn't have a bit of Chinese going but I got on grand although Chinese people tend to keep to themselves I found. If your working with Chinese people though might be a good idea to learn a bit. Hope this helps.

Aye, 800 euro a month is a bit low for Beijing. I was working for 600 (including apartment) in a city 16 hrs north or BJ called Harbin (beautiful place). I had lots left over after every month and ate out a few times a day for a few euro a pop.
The cost of living in the big cities such as BJ and Shanghai are very high compared to the other cities, but still relatively low of course compared to the west.
I would recommend staying away from such cities on your first teaching job. Go for places like Harbin, Chengdu and Dalian (heard fantastic things about this city - ultra modern and clean with Starbucks!!).
There are many food halls where you point what you want so ordering is not a problem if you have no Chinese. Most restaurants have picture menus anyway.
Anything else just ask. China is incredible, my second home really!(I went to study Chinese while teaching).
But if you're looking to make some money actually worth something in the West I would recommend Korea or Japan. Having said that Chinese are more relaxed and friendly than Koreans or Japanese and the society is less complicated.

It's actually a job linked to the college here. The job is mainly promoting the college here so it wouldn't be possible to travel around. An apartment is provided so it would be just spending money. I don't want to save from the year long trip just don't want to dig into my savings too much if ya get me!
