Hi there, I'm on a mission to gather a bunch of pics of Boards peeps doing their thing out in the wild... so I'm looking for one for the Cycling forum

I was hoping someone has an iconic pic or a big group pic somewhere that I can have a copy of... any ideas?

    DeV.

There's a big group photo somewhere in this thread. And some ones of individual agony.

    EDIT:-

this is a good one of a bunch on the top of Kippure

You get a good photo from the wicklow 200 in 2 weeks if you wanna wait that long!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Talk to Emty, he is the official photographer.

Don't use the Kippure one, I (and all my magnificence) am not in that one :)

If you can hold on for 2 weeks there should be a big 30/40+ one of the W200

There's also photos of everyone in Boards kit from the last W200.

I think there are some from last year's W200 with a decent concentration of Boards jerseys, but if you can wait until Monday 8 June I reckon you will get the biggest and best group shot yet, boards-jersey-wise.

Much like that one I reckon if we get everyone to line up, class photo style, on the steps of the sports hall.

Group shot on top of Alpe d'Huez, 100% Boards Jersey :) But most impressive will still be this year's Wicklow 200 I reckon.

Start a thread organising it or else wait for someone else to do it!

I have a medium sized boards jersey (long sleeved) which I could give you a loan on the day if you want. Alternatively someone might be looking to get rid of one of them from before if you're lucky.

nice group shot there... we want them for the walls of the office, we're grabbing a few from all the things organised on Boards (athletics, soccer etc)

May as well wait for two weeks before printing anything out. The Wicklow 200 group shot should be fairly impressive as others have said! 40 boardsies at least in their boards gear!

Thanks for your interest. Its a George Longstaff custom built one wheel drive trike circa 1992.

I love trikes and wouldn't ride anything else.

Hi - there's usually loads of pics from the various spins either day of the weekend and at events. Here's a link to the Mick Byrne one from last weekend and there's plenty there from a few sources (mostly near the end of the thread).

They might need names for the photos??

Just in case they do the people in this photo are, from the back left: Fred Smith, Fred Jones, Fred Fredrick, Fred Taylor, and Fred "The Fred" Rhys.

Of course no collection would be complete without a picture of Fred Tunney in his short shorts.

Terrific photos lads, I cant tell you how cool it is to see people wearing the Boards tops, make me feel all weird :):)

I'll tell you a secret... I used to be big into cycling, cycled to Turkey once. Been meaning to get back into it since I broke my leg in an accident a few years back. Its my intention to get back on the bike and go for a spin sometime this summer (I'm a fair weather cyclist!). But I doubt I am in shape enough to do more then a few dozen klics at the moment!

Well you will have to come out on a Boards spin near you some time soon. If you ain't got a bike, well, we are pretty adept at spending other people's money here.

I have a Dawes Galaxy, hand made touring bike that I need to knock the rust off of.

How long are your "spins" because I dunno how far I could make it on a first time out but I do really want to get out and cycle again, and soon. If for nothing else, my leg could do with the muscles being built up again!

As for pride, there is little more fulfilling then seeing someone on a bike with the name of the little site we started nearly 10 years ago now. I think groups like you guys, doing something for each other without big business "owning" it, is awesome beyond words.

You'll be fine on the Dawes.
I know that I've been approached once by a group of cyclists asking me what this Boardsie thing on my jersey is. We get a few beeps when out too from folk who see the kit. You can tell them apart from the people who are beeping cos they hate you and your sexy muscley legs.

Spins are usually of the order of 90km+
However, some folk turn off early and head home, and come back another day, building the distance up. Which is the correct way to do it.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

    *cough* *choke*

    90km!?

Ahem... I may have important things to do later that day. I think someone out on the internet is wrong and I will have to return to correct them. Yes. Thats it. :) :pac:

Ah but surely you might have time to come out for the first bit and then turn back to correct those miscreants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

You would actually be surprised how much easier it is to longer distances with a group. I'd say you can do double the distance at least you might do on your own. We have taken out people who have never done more than 50km or so before on the flat and thoroughly broken them got them 125km around Wicklow no bother at all.

Ah you'll come out for a spin, won't ya?

We set ourselves three targets when we started this boards spin thing...

    1. Get a jersey. TinyExplosions led that.
    2. Get a nemesis. For a while there we had a Facebook group who hated us. They've gone underground
    3. Get the Boards leader out for a spin.

OK, so I just made all that up, but I think they are worthy goals and we've done 2 out of 3. You don't want us to fail do you?
