Venue suggestions

    Hi all,

I hope this is the right place for such a question....

I am planning to put on a charity gig in October/ November and need some suggestions for a venue in Dublin city. Preferrably something on the south side. It would be an evening gig with jazz, classical, opera, 80's pop, trad.... Capacity 200-300. We've looked at a few venues & they don't work for one reason or another. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on a new/ lesser known venue, that are child friendly or serve alcohol, or both (though I'm not sure if thats legal?).
    Anyway, thanks for reading :)

Well it would help if you said which venues you had tried to be honest..

Maybe the Sugar Club? I'm not sure about it being child accomodating though.

Sugar club won't do kids in the evening time,it's hard enough for students to get in.Usual story with security, think they own the venue.
I would recomend the Purty Loft in Dun Laoire for an afternoon gig to accomodate kids running into a night time gig with plenty of booze for us adults.
They also have a top resturant downstairs so could be worth a look.

    Hey thanks for the replies.

The Sugar Club, Le Cirq, The Academy, Whelans, Radio City, Bewleys Theatre Cafe are no-go's for reasons like: too small/ too big/ the booker-person is an a**/ too northside/ too expensive. I think The Button Factory or Crawdaddy are maybes if we cant come up with anything else.
The place in Dun Laoghaire sounds good, but too far away :( We'd be bringing much gear from Dublin 2.
It sounds like we're v picky, but we're not really! Radio City would be good I think, but we're organising it through work & the boss doesn't want northside :(
    Any more thoughts appreciated! :)

The Button Factory is good and is run by a friendly crew of people. Great location obviously.
