Working perfectly well last night (3 am taping) switch on just now and no sound, signal fine. I ended up pulling the plug and a reboot worked. Does this happen much? Its a Thompson 116 033.

This happens to my Sky box every 6 months or so. As you said taking out the power cable and rebouting sorts it out for about another 6 months.

I press Services, then I hear the menu music, then I press the Back Up button and "hey presto" sound back.

If I remember correctly this was one of the faults with Thompson boxes, there are a few others.
I think it was a problem with the capacitors on the PSU which can be changed and should fix mosty of the problems

One of my tvs (it's a Sky-Eye setup) doesn't have sound unless the Sky box is on when you switch on the TV...

If the box has gone to standby and you switch on the TV, there's no sound, and you need to switch off the TV, switch on the box, and switch back on the TV.

Not sure if it's a TV feature (no signal = auto-kill the static noise) that's buggy and doesn't "recover" if the channel doesn't change, but it's annoying at times.

    Anyone seen this before ?
