About to buy a car

    So whats to be done.

    I'm getting my insurance switched over shortly
    Tax - have to wait for log book and send it off

    Anything else?

    Its all new to me

    you should get the log book when you collect the car. you fill your details out on the back and post off to Shannon. when it comes back to your address in your name, you can go ahead and tax it.
    You're only liable for tax from the start of May.

    If you're buying privately, don't pay for the car until you've seen the logbook, it's really the only proof that the seller owns the car, and it saves a lot of hassle down the line re: taxing etc.

    Its a garage and its been there for awhile (had a look at a car there about a year ago)

    Just did my transfer of ownership today after picking up my car last night.

    Took the completed logbook into the Motor Tax office in Smithfield today. Did the change of ownership (new logbook will take about a week to come in the post) and taxed the car. They printed out the disc there and then for me.

    because I had switched over my insurance last night (new disc to be issued in the post), and I now have a tax disc, I'm all set to go.
