Tints in Driving Test

I have a friend who is doing her driving test next week. her car has tints, not limo black, you can still be seen. my question is will she be immediately stopped from using the car in the test, is there a level of tints that is acceptable or will it be an instant non starter. her driving instructor doesn't seem to know either way but suggests she use her car, for 100 quid, (of course she would suggest that) Has anyone been stopped from doing test for having tints.

As far as I'm aware tinted windscreen and/or tinted front windows are illegal. So if a Guard would have a problem with them so would the driving tester.

It depends on the level of tint. Lots of cars comes with a tint as standard.

To be honest, based on your description the tints are very dark.

I would suggest that your friend gets the tint level on their vehicle checked. If it doesn't meet the minimum specification laid down under the law she should get the tints removed. Whether she is doing a driving test is irrelevant.

As you friend is starting off their driving career in getting their test, its best they comply with all relevant laws and have their vehicle in a road worthy condition.

Car is 08 golf gt, 3 door so is road worthy, the tints are not very dark. if she is sitting in the car, side on you can see her fine. it's her husbands car as her own car is awaiting nct appoint.

Did the car come with this tint from the factory/dealer? Or are they a tint put on by some guy done down a lane way?

If it came from the factory / Dealer, they will be done to the relevant legal standard. If they are done by some guy down a lane way, who knows what they are.

pretty certain they were part of the package when he bought it, though i'd have to check with her for sure. i think they're defo compliant, she just doesn't want to be turned away before she's even begun but at the same time doesn't want o waste 100 quid doing it in a micra she's never driven before. if they are legal, is that enough or could the tester just decide on his own judgement.

100 quid for peace of mind, and the risk of losing ~75 for a resit sounds decent enough tbh...

other option is to get her insured on another car, your own, or a friends etc. Probably a better idea then the rental, as she'd probably get more time with it then the rental to learn how it drives etc
