I accidentally ripped the wire out of the horn (long story) in my car so ive had no sound out of it for a few weeks now. It hasnt been a priority to get it fixed as i rarely use it but i have the NCT coming up soon and a guy in work said its an automatic fail. Is this correct?

    Yes. It is a fail.

You will hear them testing the horns when you are waiting.

It is a visual/audio(they call it visual) retest because they only have to use their ears to hear it is working again.

Of course it's a fail, it's dangerous to drive a car without a working horn.

Horn is as important imo as headlights. Used it many times to prevent accidents but also to express my disapproval at how many people handle round abouts (yes I know this isn't the correct use...)

    Here you go:
    http://www.ncts.ie/nctmanual.pdf
    REASONS FOR FAILURE
    (1) Control insecure.
    (2) Horn insecurely mounted.
    (3) Not working correctly.
    (4) Not working or not fitted.
