Shoulder/rotator cuff injury ??

Done an injury to my rotator cuff over a week ago. The point of pain seems to be where the shoulder and arm bone ( ball and socket ? ) meet. Very painful for the first day or two, couldn't lift my arm much higher than parallel to my shoulder. However rest and a few good night's sleep have improved it greatly it seems - but I obvioulsy don't want to go back training too early.

Anyone had a similiar injury and how long were you out with it ?

( BTW, injury seems to have been caused by punching a too light bag and over extending my shoulder as I punched it, instead of hitting something solid )

I've felt your pain (but at the time it was coupled with another injury so it wasnt limited to the rotator cuff).

But condsidering the nature of your sport might be a good idea to wait till your 100% before running the risk of over extending or aggravating it further. After consulting with the physio I went on a strengthening program of Alternate arm Press ups on small medicine ball / full press ups into pilates ball are great for aiding in stabilisation that will be lost as a result of the injury.

I always swear by deep tissue massage and accupuncture coupled with steam room and plunge pool to cure what ails ya!

I've injured mine recently and it keeps coming back, I'd recommend taking as much time off as possible and let it heal completely. In my case I tried to train through what I thought was a minor injury and ended up getting a nasty Kimora which had me out for a few months!
Still clicks when I shoulder press!

maybe you should do some rotator cuff exercises to strengthen the muscles that stabilise the shoulder

deep tissue work to break down adhesions will also help but remeber to bring something to bite into like a peice of rope if you get a therapist that like to get in deep

Charles Poliquin has some interesting stuff out there about shoulder/rotator cuff injuries
