bit of an embarassing problem

Okay, you may want to look away now.

I noticed a boil developing in my groin yesterday. Now the embarassment is not so much due to it's intimate nature (though publicising this on the internet may not be the smartest thing I've done recently).

I'm more concerned this is going to develop and scupper my W100 attempt. After telling all and sundry about this (the W100, not the boil),it would be highly humiliating to withdraw due to a pimple on my bum.
Anyone dealt with this before, should I harass my GP for antibiotics? It's early stage, quite small and not painful.

Telling him to remove a testicle isn't the best advice ever :D

How compress to try and develop it a little, then as Lumen said, pop it with a sterilized needle (boiling water is great for this), then use savlon or something to keep germs out (or paint with iodine).

Should be grand for the WW100 if you get started now :)

Is it that bad? Nice padded shorts and some chamois cream usually alleviate any pain.

    That's for thorns isn't it?

Okay, Lance + testicles, very funny, settle down at the back now.
It isn't at all sore so I'm minded to leave it and give a few days to subside before going poking about with needles and bread sauce.
Regarding poultices, bread / eggs / even bacon have been mentioned in various parts of the internet. I'm sure they have served their purpose in times past but I will probably visit the chemist before I start smearing my privates with the full Irish.

Works for any infection - you use mouldy bread - it's essentially a cheap way to combine breakfast and penicillin.

All you'd need to do is replace the pad in your pants with a couple of slices of wet batch (Brennans batch is usually lovely and soft!)

Squeeze the **** out of it (that can hurt!) and dab it with TCP to dry it out.
If you're doing the W on the singlespeed then you'll be standing for quite a bit of the time so you should be fine!

If the skin ain't broken yet, don't lance or break or squeeze it, go to the chemist and get some magnesium sulphate paste ( sounds worse than it is ! ), and some heavy plasters, apply to the area accordingly and cover with plasters, the paste will draw out the crap from the boil in a couple of days or so .....probably caused by a ingrown hair or a blocked sweat gland .........

and maybe give the bike a break ....

    and don't look here !

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abscess

    hope this helps !

    Biker Joe

PS anyone that tells you lance it and put TCP on it, is giving you very BAD advice ! that will just give you a
    bigger pain in the hole

Or benzoyl peroxide is recommended on a lot of the cycling websites (its a skin cream normally used for acne)

+1 on the 'don't lance, break or squeeze' it...It could spread infection and leave you a lot sorer (is that a real word?) in the long run...A week and a half to WW100 though so you should be well over it by then...Good luck
