Just wondering has anyone been charged to change a date of departure from Australia to another country lately?I'v changed dates before through Qantas and never had to pay a fee for date changes.Rang them today and they want to charge me to change dates. I know when changing a destination you have to pay a fee but never a date.

    Anyone else experienced this lately?

I think I was charged for changing flight dates with Quantas ..it was at the end of the 11 month period where you always have to change flight details :pac: .. think it was something like 20AUD.. I know we also got charged by Air NZ for something similar

Yep on a RTW trip at the moment and have had to pay for any changes I've made, not just for flights too/from Australia. Not cheap at £25(Around 55aud) per person, although you can change as many flights as you want on your ticket per phone call as long as there is a no destination change and there are economy seats available on the flight.

Everytime I rang them I told them that when I booked with Trailfinders they said there would be no charges. They then say its not actually a charge for changing the flight but an admin fee?

I remember when I went in 2007 they said there would be a fee, but they never charged me in the end.
Might depend on who you're actually flying with. Like, I had a Quantas rtw ticket - but was never actually on a Quantas flight.

The whole charges for changing flights thing seems to depend on who you are dealing with and where.

Years back when booking in 2002 I was told ticket changes cost X amount. I went into Qantas head office in Sydney (think it might be Pitt St but not sure ) and went to rebook the ticket 10 months later. While I was there I had a good conversation with the rep and he waived the fee. It seems they have the power to do it if they so choose so being friendly often helps :)

Some travel agencies on the other hand will always charge you. Even though its literally 5 minutes work for them its a revenue stream that they are not going to lose out on.

Went into the Qantas office in Sydney and they charged us $60 to change our flights each. It was free when we rang them though.

Have talked to 3 separate people about changing dates on flights and all said we would be charged 60aud per person. Then went into the qantas office in Melbourne today and managed to charm our way to getting the date changes for free. It really does seem to be the person you are dealing with.

Yeah it seems to be a discretionary charge- its totally up to the customer service agent whether you get charged it or not so a lot depends on how their day has gone and how you treat them.
Best to go into their offices with sweets, ice creams and, if they're the opposite sex, a flirtatious attitude :D

I originally came away on a RTW ticket from trailfinders but that expires in a week. I still have one flight i´d like to change if possible. But it would require changing the destination rather than the date. Does anyone know if that is possible to do through Qantas? I know there would be a fee if it can be done and i don´t mind paying it as i´m sure it would be cheaper than booking a new flight.

Yeah its no problem to change a destination with them. It will cost of course, about $200AUD per person. Part of that fee is a 75euro charge, the remaining being their local charge. If they think you are from England then they might quote you that 75euro in pounds, which they have converted to 50pounds, saving you a few quid with the weak pound.

Basically Qantas have recently introduced charges (approx 60AUD) to change dates on RTW ticket...previously it was only a small admin fee (approx 10AUD). Anyone who changes the dates on their flights before departure are of course gonna occur am admin fee from the likes of trailfinders or usit, they are not charities!! The cheapest and easiest way of changing dates is once you are enroute and directly through the airline...they charge you per call and not per change so try and have your dates all sorted and only pay the fee once.:D
