    Note:
Don't watch if of a sensitive disposition.

    <snip>

scary stuff, lets hope anything like this doesn't happen in this country - not impossible given the growing popularity of drifting and drag racing.

Mod Edit. I sought advice on this from other mods and the consensus was to remove it. A news report in Ireland wouldn't show that footage

    Holy S**t, that is scary

the crowd know the dangers. So do the drivers. It's the same with rallies and such....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,528 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

the same could have been said back in the days of the RS200 mowing through crowds at rallys.

not much protection for spectators there! health and safety regulations anyone?

    Do they though ?

We all know what could happen, yet we conveniently forget about it every so often and danger becomes routine ...be that at a race or in daily driving.

Its exactly like the rallys, sure the Red and White tape is "Invinciblity Tape" as long as you're behind the tape...you're safe!!! It doesn't matter if a Rally car flys around a bend at 100 mph...the tape will save ya

can't understand the report...how many were killed? because based on that, some definitely had to have been killed

    Jez rip..

That is scary. Madness that they were just sitting at the side of the track so close.
But given the opportunity i have to admit i would probably stand there too.

Translation of what the news report says:

Kedainiai tragedy: the car ran into the crowd, injuring 8 people, two of them - the hard (updated)

Disaster has occurred over the aerodrome Dauka "driftinGO" (side-slip car) championship competitions selective

People on youtube are saying it happened 100m after the end of the track.

Injured 8 but what happened to 2 people?

I wonder was he tryin to show off or did he lose control the 100 yards back.

I presume it means two of them were seriously injured

We still choose to be there. We are all ultimately responsible for ourselves. Shouldn't rely on the presence of a barrier, or legislation to look after us.

Why does the driver roll around on the ground afterwards?

I disagree, it appears (purely from what I'm reading about what happened) that that driver shouldn't have been doing what he was doing in that area, that was the exit from the drift area. In that case, is it tough **** for those involved just because they chose to stand there?

I didn't actually see that mentioned....

But in a more general case, rather than just in this one instance.

I think if you pay into an event, there is an onus on the management to keep you safe. obviously common sense comes into it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭rai555

yeap 2 injured are in ITU, the driver completed the drag race allready and suppose to slow down

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 752 ✭✭✭JimmyCrackCorn!

if the driver was hooning it around where he shouldn't have been then hes going to have to deal with his conscience for the rest of his life.

I hope he didnt kill anyone but hes certainly badly hurt a few of them.

If that was a section of track it was a stupid place to have track and it would have happened sooner or later.

As for the rally tape argument. It would be nice if they paid any attention to the tape in the first place.

Motorsport is dangerous its just a pity it takes something like this for people to actually believe it.

I was gonna send the link to a friend to get her to translate the whole report for us but I don't want her to see that video.

That's horrible. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that being here tbh or am I being over sensitive?*

    *genuine question?

That was the first thing I thought too but seeing peoples responses, it doesn't seem so bad now

Think its more after hours than motors.

That'd just make a joke out of a fairly serious video

That video scared the **** out of me, I don't take part in this forum but IMO this is the perfect place for it, it might encourage people to stay safe on the roads.

It's a pretty understandable reaction to maybe killing numerous people through your actions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,801 ✭✭✭✭Gary ITR

I've snipped the video from the OP. I'm happy to let the discussion continue as it is a sensible one.

Just to set the scene, a drift car went out of control and ploughed into a crowd and bodies were sent flying everywhere.

While typing this earlier I got a call from the alarm company in work to say we'd had a break in so sorry for the delay in explaining

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,180 ✭✭✭Mena

While the video is shocking, it's what can happen in these situations and the more people who see it the better, as it may make them consider their actions.

Anyone know if anyone has died as a result? I guess as some form of respect for those seriously injured not posting it here is a good thing.

As a friend of mine just said when he watched this video " I'd be hard pushed to stand by the side of the road in Lithuania never mind there " .

Accidents happen. But since the guy was supposed to slow down I don't see why he can't be held responsible and get nicked for manslaughter if someone died from this.

I would have thought the Title, thread reactions, warning and the fact it wasnt embedded in the original post (or was it?) would be enough to allow a mere link. No one can claim to be surprised. This is the reality of a car on person(s) collision that we all could do with seeing every now and again. Its not as bad [visually] as the RSA young men are dangerous TV adverts, that appear without warning for pleasant dinner time discussion with the kids.

I assume you done mind if we advise the title on Youtube:
"NISSAN 180SX drifts into a crowd of spectators"
Otherwise people will go off there and likely find other, irrelevant to the discussion, car crashes and just cause confusion.

One major difference is that the people in the TV ads are paid actors who are not actually getting hurt.

Of course, hence I stuck in "visually" there. Visuals tend to shock more than the story behind.

True (unfortunately), but there is a line between education & voyeurism - I think this is why the video was snipped.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

It's a very easy video to find, but it's at the viewer discretion.

Horrible video tbh, not really worth the watch.

video isn't that bad at all to be fair... shouldn't have been snipped if there's a warning that it's a bit rough.

crazy that something like that can happen tho..
