I had the same op in early march last year. I never really ran before but the injury had kept me out of football for about the 3 years before I Had the op. I took up running at the start of this year, But i think my knee had fully recovered about 4 or 5 months after the op ( i joined a gym last august when it was feeling better.)

My only advice is to do all you physio after the op. Try your best to build up your quads. The quad of the affected leg will be very weak after the op and the knee will not feel good until the quad is built up to a degree that it takes all the weight and stress put on you leg.
I was working for a few weeks last July, doing a lot of heavy lifting, and it wasn't till after that that my knee felt fully recovered. I am convinced it was the affect all the lifting had on my thighs that made my knee feel fully recovered.

Good luck with the operation anyway.

Its also very important to work on your hamstrings. You should be able to walk on the day of the op. I was able to do some light jogging within a month. The cruciate on the other hand was a different matter:rolleyes:

I'd agree with menoscemo and downthemiddle. If you've got a bit of time before the op, try to get some physio to get the knee in as good condition as you can before it.
Best of luck with it anyway.

Just like to let OP know that it might seem all doom and gloom but in 6 months you will wonder what all the fus was a bout...

Couple of years ago had a nasy tackle in an inter frim soccer match.. tore my cruciate, medial ligament and during surgery to replace cruciate had some cartilage that i didn't know about "stapled" ( was the term used!) after 6 months of rehab and physio(bloody expensive!!) i was give the go a head to go back playing.. played rugby and soccer for a few more years.. still play indoor... and not a bother! About to run my 5 marathon in 18 months next monday ( if i can find a babysitter)..
Suppose after rambling:rolleyes: make sure quads are as strong as yuo can get them before surgery... without injurying yourself even more..this will make it somewhat easier uring your rehab... and listen to your physio!!!

uppsssy don't think they'll get much stronger before wed.....

I know this is an oldish thread, but earlier posts have quasi-medical advice. Locked.
