    Hi Chaps,

I have a 01 BMW 525i and noticed that the car has developed a
flat spot at between 4K and 4.5K RPM , When accelerating the car pulls smootly up to about 4K RPM were it still accelerates but just not as smoothly , it seems to almost hesitate , but then over 4500 RPM it pulls cleanly again throughout the rest of the rev range.
Just wondering , before i bring it to a mechanic , if anybody could offer any suggestions as to a cause to the problem?

    Thanks

As I recall, the biggest issue with any sort of performance issues is the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF sensor), and should be the first port of call when troubleshooting..
Diagnostics hookup should reveal a lot!

An independent would be better, or if you're up for it it's pretty easy to fit yourself.

Hi Anan1, Do you mean the fitting of the MAF or the diagnostics? either way
i would be more than up for it. in these recessionary times i would prefer to do what i can myself :)

The fitting of the MAF is easy, once you're sure that the problem is the MAF. Diagnostics requires the correct equipment, and is probably best left to a specialist. Are you in Dublin? If so, give AC Car Sales a call, they're friendly, helpful guys:http://www.accarsales.com/

I have the car booked in for the free BMW checkup http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055568024
on Friday , I might chance my arm and see if they would hook it up and run the diagnostics on it. Thanks for the replies chaps.
