windows defender and windows update

    hi

    the defender hasnt been working for ages it scas then says cant check for definitions. and the update hasnt been working i have 6 important updates and error 80240016 come sup. i installed avg 7.5 and that was getting rid of virus's i had no its turned off and wont let me turn it back on. i have used the stickys and followed the steps and have tried microsofts website but this is really annoying now. computer is stalling a god bit now.. and im afraid now it could be hacked etc...

    any help is greatly appriciated
