    14 MARATHONS IN GALWAY CITY
    Mon, 25/05/2009
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO CLOCK UP A FEW HANDY MARATHONS?

The Galway Marathon Race Series 2009 consists of 14 full distance, 26.2 mile marathons through the streets of Galway City in the West of Ireland.
Why 14? Galway City is known as the City of the Tribes (see http://www.galway1.ie/faq/tribes.htm). So we want you to sweep into the area and run a marathon named after a Galway Tribe.

During the series there are a few opportunities to run two marathons in two days and there is even a quadruple effort planned over the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Organised by runireland.com, each marathon will be run over an accurately measured course. If you are interested in participating in any (or all) please fill in the form at the link below and we will get back to you with further information.

A minimum of 5 starters is required for any race to be officially recognised. These races are to be regarded as self-sufficient with one water drop at the half-way point. The start time will be 10am on Saturday and Sundays or 5pm on Friday events. Each finisher will receive a commemorative medal and finishers certificate. Once a race has sufficient interest entry will open on www.runireland.com These races will be recognised by the 100 Marathon Club UK & Ireland.

In the hill walking community there are people who are hell bent on bagging munros... hills over a particular height. The same concept is there for marathon runners too to a certain extent. I've suffered from running 2 marathons close together (more mentally than physically). Not sure I see the point of running marathons back to back, day to day to day to bag a few IMHO. Each to their own though.

Ray O'Connor the race director for Connemarathon is well on his way to joining the 100 marathon club (http://www.100marathonclub.org.uk/). He is one person racking them up regularly and who can take full advantage of the 14 in Galway.* I believe in the old adage that you can only race a couple of marathons a year but you can complete many :-)

*I'm also guilty. I didn't set out to run any marathons this year but just totting them up in my head, I'll have done at least 9 in 2009 even if I don't enter any more now :o

I`ll probably do 12 outta the 14..I can`t resist a few marathons on my doorstep...
But only if its the right price and all that(cheaper by the dozen maybe?:P)
The first few as training I suppose and the last to see how the experiment works out..:D
