I bought the album on the strength of "Mistaken for Strangers" which is a cracking tune. However at first i found the album hard to love believing the National to be a poor mans interpol, but after a few listens it grew on me to such an extent that its now one of my favourite albums. Fake Empire and Apartment story are all majestic.

An amazing album, I would have thought this would have gotten album of the week awhile ago, but I guess it's easier to see clearly when there isn't post gig National fever sweeping the nation :)

I love the drums on this album.

Favourite songs: Green Gloves and Slow Show.

Boxer as an album feels cleaner and more vital than previous works by the National, it might be the orchestration,or the clearer and more pronounced mournful piano evident on 'racing like a pro' and others. But don't be deceived by it's apparent understatement and more subdued tones than say 'Alligator' or 'Sad Songs....'. Devendorfs' drumming seems to drive things along more, at times sounding quite chaotic at others quite subdued and barely discernible. And whilst Boxer might not grab you first time it really is something that reaps dividends aplenty from two or three listens. This is an intelligent, beautiful masterpeice, an immense work
