    hi
I have been offered an opportunity to rent a large premises with parking close to an extremely busy road - ie there is a lot of passing potential customers. Rent 1,100 per week.

I have seen a concept in the North of the country (for in the republic) where they basically paint the floor, use basic shelving, minimal staff, basic cash registers etc and sell non perishable foodstuffs, toiletries, car accessories etc which i thought might work in these hard times.

The difference between this type of store and Lidl / Aldi is that it is all branded goods at a really really competitive price. this way people can come and stock up on certain items such as dog foods, toilet papers, sauces, cereals etc

I have a lot of experience in business / business management but not in the retail sector - so am really just looking for pointers and advice on where to begin, the pitfalls, hidden costs etc etc.

Any advice would be much appreciated.....

that is the lidl/aldi market, they do offer all brand names.
You are talking about a premium goods discount store.

Have you run the figures, I doubt you could match the price of Tesco, superquinn etc. for branded good given their buying power.
