Hey guys I bought some Tascam vl-a5s BI-amplified active near field two way studio monitors from Thoman last year which are great I might add. however One of them failed some months back and upon changing the internal 2amp glass fuse and power lead fuse it didn’t work So Thoman suggested I send it back which I did and it was fixed and returned and never found out what the issue was and Haven’t had a problem since until today when the power went off momentarily and back on. they're both powered sperately and not run through an amp as they both have built in amps.

anyways the speakers wouldn’t power on and I checked the fuses which were black (burned) so I replaced them and the power leads fuses just incase, and the power light only comes on for a couple of seconds then powers off. I opened up the back to see if I can see anything burned or damaged and everything looks fine. I have emailed Thoman and waiting on a reply. I really don’t fancy having to post these back to Germany (even tho they’re under warranty) and waiting weeks for them to come back. any ideas I'd appreciate it
    thanks

Sounds like a "Send Them Back" problem I'm afraid.

However perhaps try calling Thomann and/or Tascam in the UK

    (Tel 0044845 1302511)

    and explain your problem.

http://www.fixtronix.ie/ are Tascam's official local service agents so may well be able to sort it out either, but you'll probably have to sort that with Thomann first.

Hey thanks for your reply Paul. Much obliged.
I emailed Thoman asking if they could find out from their technician what was fixed the last time as maybe if it was cheap and easy id do it myself. They still haven’t responded yet but have great customer service so I’ll wait and see. I also emailed Teac UK and they said its Thoman’s responsibility which is understandable. Thanks for the link to the Irish Teac servicers. That will be useful in the future and maybe even sooner. Considering this is twice it has happened now I’m wondering should I ask for a different brand of speaker as a replacement. Because this is going to happen again and next time it won’t be under warranty!! seems built in preamplified speakers always have problems.
    Thanks

    Not specifically I've seen.

Give Thomann a bell, tell them you don't want to send them back and that there's a Tascam service agent here.
It's Tascam who pay for the repair if it's under warranty , not Mr.T.

Might be worth your while checking out the new European consumer laws.. Irish laws (which are not applicable in this case as it was purchased in Germany) state the repair must be permenant.. if it isn't then you are entitled to a replacement or refund.. I would imagine Euro law would follow a similar format, so you might be able to bring some pressure to bear there...

Hi. thanks for the replies guys. I had to send the tascams back to germany as requested by thoman at their expense . I spoke to them and they said if its the same problem as last time they'd consider an exchange for other speakers, so Im unsure as to what to go for. Ive no amp so they'd need to be active again and Id ideally like something a bit meaty like the tascams were so I can enjoy sound all over my house. I only mix on abelton in a deejay capacity so they dont need to be super. also they'd need to be under 300 E and have XLR inputs. would appreciate some recommendations and hopefully this time I'll get it right.
