    Hi all,
Recently my hdd died and had to get a new one from Dell. I fitted it myself, but in the last few months I can hear clicking noises from the hdd. The drive works fine but intermittently it makes a single click. It doesn't happen alot but im concerned that this could become a seroius problem. It a Dell inspiron laptop 1525. The drive is a standard samsung hdd.
Im thinking it might have anything to do with the signal cable, although no real idea
    Hope you can help

Mine's done that for over a year....

Might just be the head parking itself a bit to frequently. The one in my laptop does it with one hell of a thwack....

    Anyway.... backup...backup/..... always backup

Check your BIOS settings (usually a Function key on bootup, F2 etc).

Although obviously don't go messing around in there if you don't know what you're doing... but on a lot of Dell laptops, there is a setting that will alter acoustics/performance. Might be worth seeing what it is currently set at.

Yeah, took a look, its set at Bypass
There's two other option quiet and performance...
Should i mix it up and change it from bypass?

Yep. Reckon that got rid of the HDD noise on my Dell, although its going back a good while so I cant recall exactly.

Change it either of the options and see if you can hear a difference.

Also, there are some Vista services (assuming you are using Vista) that will trash the hard-drive a lot, things like indexing particularly. It can help if you either disable indexing, or minimise the list of folders that are being index to the bare essentials.
