    From Setanta
The return of Saint & Greavsie will let fans roll back to the days when watching TV on FA Cup final day was a magical experience, as much about the build-up to the game as the game itself. This year coverage will start at 9am and will be free-to-air, meaning the signal will be un-encrypted and therefore available to cable and satellite viewers without a subscription, until 7pm.

Smart business by Setanta I feel - they would have had little or no viewers against ITV if they had off kept the Final encrypted

. Its also a real coup getting St & Greavsie on Setanta - especially seeing as they were on ITV for so long.

I'll watch Setanta 'til 2.45 then switch to ITV HD.

ITV HD is on the new EPG update from Sky now, I've got it via my TM 6800 until I get the update for Samsung boxes though luckily enough.

    Yep, see here

Still might watch it on RTE though, always prefer Irish commentators:)

    Just to clarify...

ITV HD is not on the Sky EPG. It can be added to the Other Channels menu only on certain Sky HD boxes, those that have been updated to the latest EPG.

only because they are more "pro" Man Utd than Man U TV...and that is a FACT...

I wouldnt waste any time looking at ITV HD judging by the champions league final and previous matches I've seen on it. They were loosing picture and sound the whole time and started showing the studio with time left in first half (aswell as upscaling SD at some stages). They should give up on live HD.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,677 ✭✭✭staker

Have to agree kaisersoze, that was terrible last night.
Went back to RTE to woeful audio.

Near enough every itv HD match has been a disaster with either loss of picture, upscaled SD, sound drop outs. How come the BBC can do it perfectly? Had to laugh when before the end of the 1st half they went to the studio showing pictures of the commentators watching the monitors!

Are Rte showing the FA Cup Final?

    Come on Everton!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

No. RTE are not showing the FA Cup final.

After the fiasco of the fa cup replay with liverpool when ITV switched to an ad break just before Everton scored the only goal of the game (in extra time) they lost all footballing cred as far as I'm concerned....its setanta for me :D

I have a feeling ITV HD will be spot on for the Cup Final. Its a home based production which should also help.Looking forward to it! I'm a neutral as well!

    !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Hagar

It may be soft scrambled ie only viewable on a sky box.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,857 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

It seems its free to view on Sky not fta .

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,857 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

They should do away with that also

well they can go and fcuk themselves,or at least be a bit more specific

FTA for users with a sky box would not have killed them

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,857 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

    1pm coverage starts n itv1 preview on itv4 at 12.25

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

Do you need a FTV card then to watch it or will a cardless skybox do the job? Its possibly to stop freesat users watch it. Anyhow ill give ITV HD a go, hope they get it right this time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Hagar

I'm watching on Setanta Ireland and if I take out my card the picture disappears. I guess you would need a FTV card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭mjsmyth

Sure looks like you need a card... Yet again it looks like a TV Compnay either does not know the meaning of FTA and Unencrypted or does not believe there is an alternative to Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

It completely defeats the object of not being encrypted for non sky viewers. Unless there is a deal in place with ITV over this? So non sky viewers cannot watch Setenta's coverage then? So Setenta dont actually gain anything apart from sky viewers that dont sub to Setenta. It about sums this company up.

At the moment it is FTV on 423 Setanta 1. I have a UK Sky subscription. Using my ROI Card it is not FTV on any channel but please try 418, you never know?

Must admit viewers are being reminded how to subscribe to Setanta so whether or not the actual game is FTV remains to be seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

So its only uk subscribers that get it FTV? Irish sky subscribers dont?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,584 ✭✭✭PCPhoto

I'm watching it .... using a tv aerial (no NTL/sky box) ...just moved house last week so tv aerial only !!!

The complete programe was listed as Freeview on Setanta's irish website. Makes me wonder as really there are no Irish FTV cards. I wonder how Irish Sky subs got on?

EDIT! What am I talking about! It was on Freeview, the UK Digital Terestrial. Keep getting the FTA, FTV, Freeview mixed up.

I did realise my error and tried to ge out of it politely. You had it on 418 and 423 or 423 and 430 depending on your card/sub.

Lets forget about this about it. Ater all I feel the OP was hoping for FTA but as other people have said the game would be FTA on ITV. I never checked to see if the match was FTA on Freeview.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Hagar

Indeed, it was very confusing and a very poor attempt at marketing.

That said, thanks to the OP for the thread. I would never have even tried to watch the channel if I hadn't seen the post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

ITV coverage and quality was top notch for the final. Only thing that was a tad bit annoying was the time/score dog being quite some way down the screen.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

Thanks to OP, watched it (as a sky sub) on Setana Ireland. Thought the coverage was good and I'm a bit anti ITV anyway so it was nice to have the choice.

I also agree with other comments that if I hadn't seen it on here, I would never have known the cup final was free to view. Setanta could have done so much better in letting us know about it.

Indeed, I should have said Free for Me. I made the cardinal sin of saying Air instead of View.

Free to Air/Free to View are different things and I thank Mossy Monk for highlighting my error.
